I understand that (with a few rare exceptions) you can only deploy five drones at one time. But if you are flying a Domi, for example, which has the space to hold more than five standard T-2 drones, is it possible to fit more than five T-2 in the drone bay and deploy them one by one as fighting drones are killed?

You do as you allways do when you deploy drones.
Look at the overview to the right. At the bottom you find a "Drones" bar. Under it you have 3 folders, "Drones in bay", "Drones in local space" and "Drones in distant space".
Open the folder "Drones in bay" and select the drones you want to deploy, then right click and chose "Launch drones".

So I am to understand that I CAN fit more than five drones in a Domi bay and as drones in battle are killed I can deploy new ones?
I mine 0.5 space with a Covetor so I do understand the deployment of drones.

Correct. You are allowed to fit more drones in your bay than you can actually put out in space (if the bay size allows for it). ------------- Stop whining.

Yes, you just organise them into folders, then either deploy from the folder, or open it and deploy individually.
So if you make a folder called Ogre II's and put 10 ogre's in it when you right click -> deploy on that folder it will launch as many as you can control (probs 5), if one gets popped right click->deploy again and 1 more will be deployed.
I think that should answer the question? :)

If you are smart though, you'll try to rotate a badly damaged drone out of combat and scoop it to your cargo hold.
I usually wait until 1/3 of its armor is gone before recalling it.
Once it's safely in your hold, you can launch an undamaged drone to replace it.
That way you don't need to go to the expense and inconvenience of buying new drones, and merely repair them instead (much cheaper).
I guess this applies more to T2 drones, but if you're using T1s out in 0.0 or lowsec, and the local stations or outposts doesn't regularly stock drones, this method is essential.

I prefer to call them in imediatly as they are starting to get hit in the shield. With luck they will return without armor damage, and then you can re-deplay them with shields back up. Extra importent if you're deep in 0.0 far away from a station where you can reppair. Some opponents however will be able to almost instagank your poor drones. __________________________________ Gallente by birth. Amarr by choice. iDrone |

Of course, an even smarter way to protect drones is to only launch them after all npcs have already aggroed you, in which case they will never change their target to the drones. Just make sure that you can tank. I guess if a 2nd wave arrives, they might target the drones, even if the 1st wave is targeting you.

so long as you actually attack the 2nd wave, you're drones should be good...the issue is agro, and if you're drones agro on the npc's, they'l attack the drones...not you. But if YOU agro on the NPC's, assuming you have a tank, you're fine and so are you're drones.
