A few weeks ago on eve i was talking with some exmemebers from my old corp , topic was comedy and even tho both were british neither knew who graham chapman was ; bit sad tho , bout time you brits start educating your youth about your own great culture and heritage
Anyway here is my tribute to the great british comedy of the 20th century

Strange thing about British comedy...
It's 'like, I'm aware someone is telling a joke or being funny, but I don't laugh at it.
Not saying it's not funny, just doesn't get me ROFL'ing like I am apparently supposed to be doing.
I guess I just find people in real life more interesting and funny than someone who 'works' at it...somehow it just doesn't make sense.
Like they clock in at work and have to push a series of buttons in particular sequence over a per-determined period of time to get a result.
Maybe I like humor that is more spontaneous and real...than something which is fake, but designed to get a real and genuine reaction.

I admire british comedy to the fullest, and I'm latinamerican. The absurdity of the pattern is so grossly obvious you can dissect it almost clinically.
Your notion of humor is no less wrong or right, correct or incorrect as any other.
But you will see a LOT of people actually enjoy ole'classic british humor the same way some americans for some strange reasons devour stand up comedy, which I loathe most of the time or some or some tv shows that are supposed to be funny yet all I get from them is silence.
I know people that only laugh at the most debased crass jokes that have to have sexual connotations of any kind and several levels and pass by more regular jokes as boring.
I know people that only laugh at kid's jokes and totally get angry at those that use swearing or even the hint of the slightest bathroom humor.
I know people that only laugh and feel happy when they see jugglers or clowns , meh.
I don't think there's a solid definition of right or wrong in a joke, it's simply not up to your particular tastes and quirks.
British comedy though, classic one like Monty Python and even modern one holds a special spot in my heart since I was a kid and saw Tim the Enchanter for the first time.
Odd, I find your particular notion of punching buttons in sequence to be more akin to classic american humor with the retort or classic punchline plus a big facial gesture to imply it was given, hehe, but yeah.
Perhaps you could try to explore French Humor ... If you ever been an insider to a real parisian joke you will understand the way the french enjoy their humor , I hate it btw  can't grasp it.
I have explored humor in my travels and from friends during my life and so far after talking to germans, gringos, brits, canadians, french, italian, spanish and many latinamerican countries, I must say the best humor for me so far is localized Western Venezuelan Humor and British one. One for being overtly vulgar yet disguised by musical intonation in speech and British that is so oddly accentuated (perhaps the feeling of sequential buildup you feel from it) until it explodes in your brain and not your face.
For me the best of the continents.
Also, can anyone please explain , if you enjoy french humor, if the whole ordeal of the joke is to get an inside notion of the original idea in a second plane? I mean WHAT? I always felt french jokes were like insider jokes all the time. Arghh!

'The IT Crowd' is one of the funniest British series I have ever seen.

And the actual DVD's extra material is unbelievable; the DVD menus are all based on different video game genres, and incredibly detailed with custom animations based on the show.

'That Mitchell and Webb look' is hilarious.

And I recommend watching the episodes in order, the last one just blows my mind.
Check them out if you haven't yet.

Both very funny - but I don't laugh at either of them. I would probably laugh at the bloopers, that's genuinely funny, as opposed to artificially funny.
