Good day, community!
As I can see, there will be some new classes of ships able to find somebody cloaked. But are we need it? Maybe the best solution about finding cloaked ships will be a 'little' penalty for cloaking?
Cloaking devices can get a capacitor usage, but instead of standard absolute amount I prefer percentage of capacitor. The bigger ship I try to cloak the more energy I need to do it. I think, 1% of capacitor energy per second will be nice. Of course, any stealth, covert or recon ship must have a role bonus to nullify capacitor usage.

I agree that cloaking today has basically no downside (like nosferatus before the recent patch). One cloaks and sits indefinitely, and it is very hard to detect and uncloak him. Works great for cloaked campers, cloaked hunters and other folks. And, I repeat, no downside to it -- recalibration delay only prohibits active combat and does not hamper camping or hunting.
However, your proposed specific mechanism -- percentage of capacitor -- is not used anywhere else in game. In other words, the devs would have to introduce something completely new to the game, which is always difficult and risky. So I guess we'd better come up with a more conventional proposal.
Say, what if cloaking hampered your scanres and targeting just like warp core stabilisers? This would effectively put the cloaking device in the "not for combat" items category and leave it for specialised stealth ships.

a) Remove other ships ability to cloak - leave it to the cover ops/recon/black ops
b) Remove the new cloak hunter ships, because there wil lbe a lot less for them to hunt and the cov ops are made of paper anyhow __________________________ Nice forum - I'll take it! |

It seems to me there would not be a lot of job. BTW, some kind of percentage mechanism was implemented in the current version of Nosferatu.

I will agree only if these penalties will not be applyable to stealth/covert/recon ships. E.g., sensor resolution penalty requires to fit a sensor booster to be compensated.

Decloak radius should be varied, dependent on ship size, much larger then 2 km (more like 20) for big ships, smaller for covops :)

Guys, have you ever used a cloak? Cloaking has already so many downsides it really doesn't need to be nerfed more.
Cloaking has speed penality, sensor resolution and range penality, takes much CPU and it doesn't work when you are targeted! Additionally cloaking is not stealthy at all... you remain still visible in local chat and you can't use any weapons or modules while cloaked. I think that's really enough of penality.

Genial, so my Cov Ops will survive 200 seconds if it do nothing (counting my recharge rate)? Really a good idea, well thougt and accurately evalutated.

I agree 10000000000000000000000000000000000% AND make stealthbombers to use cov ops cloaking!! make bombs cheaper!
This way stealth bombers will be superb anti frig, ceptor, dictor, cruiser ship!
atm.. useless!

well, heres a quick thought of mine:
scenario: you warp to a belt and see a raven ratting .. Yay ! but then , he quickly cloaks (i know randomness ftl, but think of other scenarios urself :P ) .. what if u had like an anti-claok blast module.. would act like a anti-claok smartbomb, with greater range of course... maybe an idea for recons, black ops , bladibladibla .. please don't flame me , its just a small idea.. :P
however i do agree cloaking needs a penalty for no-claoking ships.

Dudes, cloaking already has HUGE penalties for non covert ops. It eats a highslot and CPU, borks your targeting time, and you cant warp. If cloakers are going to be findable, then regular cloakers need to at least be able to warp, and maybe also reduce the targeting delay. Otherwise proto and improved cloaks become totally useless for anything. _________________ [SAK] Alumnus--And Proud Of It! -- aka Cpt Bogus Is that my torped sig cloaking your base?

Please read more careful. I've wrote about NULL cap. usage for specialized ships such as recons, covert ops and stealth bombers.

I would fly over to where the raven cloaked and uncloak him

I couldnt agree more. Cloaking is allready seriously nerfed and does not need nerfing anymore than it already is. Cloaking needs to be left alone there is nothing wrong with it.
