I just unlocked the grafix option that has been eluding me for months, but now that I have these new option I'm not sure what they actually do.
Does anyone have any advice?

prefs.ini in your CCP\EVE\cache folder.
Best thing is to just mess around with the settings until you have the desired performance/quality you want.

What can I change with those settings?

you can change a lot of things...I have experimented and most of the features just cause more lag
I did find a sweet spot in between and the gates do look better. The station's textures still look "wavey", by that I mean as you approach them the grafix kinda splash or occilate on the model...or some nonsense. _________________

Edited by: Jacqueline Sparrow on 20/02/2004 18:09:28 Edited by: Jacqueline Sparrow on 20/02/2004 17:56:54 Hmm. Well, added that, but the options didn't seem to change at all. Odd.
(edit) Actually, it's not that odd when the variable is advancedDevice=1 and not advancedDevices=1
:b (/edit)
(edit^2) Well, looks like boosting the z-depth fixed the stairstepping problem neatly. Still haven't seen a gate, but I can only assume it's fixed given how much improved the stations are. No more intersection polygon-jitter! 32-bit Z with 8-bit stencilmask. :) Only problem now is fine points/edges occasionally showing bright pixels, and the extra-viewpane culling being a bit over-enthusiastic; sections of entities occasionally disappearing when they get too close to the left side of the screen. Though not the right... odd. Perhaps it's actually a texturemode in use that's glitching, with the translucent com bar there... I've noticed the 'warp' visual effect playing in the shadow-ramps of the UI when just starting a jump, so it looks like the blend modes are at least a little wonky. (/edit^2)

Should one get to the hidden options by pressing esc? I put the advancedDevices=1 - line to prefs.ini, but I didn't manage to get to the options.

Does anyone know of any sites which further explain any other customisation options like these? and what some of the other options do?

Since the last patch I had to remove this option.
Any time I pressed ESC in game to bring up the options window it fould flash up very briefly and then go away. Leaving just the blurry background. This would then need a CTL+ALT+DEL and close Eve from thae task manager.
Removing the advancedDevice=1 solved that but I am now back to hideous graphical artifacts like stepping due to crappy z-buffering and no anti-aliasing.
Anyone else got the same? Who are you to tell me to question authority? |

Same problems. Radeon 9000, Catalys 3.9 (with newer Eve won't start at all)

you need to get the options pane off of the display tab before you turn the option on or it confuses the UI with the new controls.

Wow...what oddness. Turning on multisampling to 2, immediate interval, and 32-bit z-buffer with 8-bit alpha, made EVE run SMOOTHER for me...how very, very odd...but very nice.

When i tried out this switch yesterday i couldnt see not much difference so i decided to remove it. Logged off, edited prefs.ini and logged on again. No changes to my graficsdriver settings are made. And after removing the switch from the ini i get pretty lousy letters now ingame just like i would have set graficsdrivers to lowest quality... (computer was restarted too -> no effect)
Can ne1 help me outta this pls? |

Try to adjust your text alignment, it might be screwed after having the advanced options turned on and off.

Edited by: Kaladryn on 03/10/2004 02:15:51 For AA/AF/VS settings (what advanceddevice=1 gives access to) you should go into your graphics card driver and force it to use the settings you want there rather than the ingame settings.
32+8 zbuffer will fix some stations, but it will messup up some amarr stations too, and it hurts performance a lot, I highly suggest leaving all these alone, make adjustments in the proper place for AA/AF/VS, your driver.
