It's wonderful how they close down a few months after releasing Shadowrun. Glad I never bought the game.
I used to get It. Then It changed. Now I don't even know what It is.

Hopefully the next time Microsoft tries to get companies to support ONLY their new operating system (in an attempt to force consumer downgrades) those companies will tell Microsoft where they can shove it. ATI and FASA learned the hard way...hopefully no more will follow.

When Microsoft owns you (lock, stock and barrel), their bonehead choices become your death knell.

There's been some projects in the running for like, forever concerning a new Mechwarrior...
To be honest, i'd be planning a UT3 total conversion for it. And if MS gives me trouble i'll just rename everything na dkeep it looking the same - It's not like they haven't been doing the same ;)
edit: on the bright side, microsoft treats it's employees a lot better than EA does.

Since MS handed off development of MW3 to Ripcord and some other company I can't remember did MW4 (horribly), no doubt MS will once again find another upstart company to completely F up the rest of the series....if we get any more. After the acquisition of FASA Interactive around...what, 2001 or so, MW played fast and loose with the FASA material they acquired and has done nothing to advance the games at all. Sure, sequels came out, but they didn't have half of the storyline that MW2 did.
Until then, there is the fan supported MMO using the MW4 engine. Eventually.

I died a little inside; first Microprose, than Bullfrog, than BlackIsle, than Troika, now Fasa. Why do big companies buy out cult-followed series just to suck them dry? Why goddamn it?

Catalyst games is the current license holder for Shadowrun.
And if you think it's been on the market a few months... boy, do you have some learnin' to do.

Dont forget, Maxis and Westwood who where assimilated by EA. the Sim City series sucks in the EA era, 2k was the last good one.

And Bungie. And TSR, if we're allowed to spill over into print products.

That's debatable. Halo was originally supposed to have RTS-like gameplay, with a focus on small squad combat. Then Micro$oft started writing the checks and lo and behold, it changes to a FPS.

Agreed. Bungie was a fantastic game development house till MS got their grubby hands on them. I can't blame the Bungie guys for selling out...lots of cash on the table would make most of us bend over but was still a tragedy.
Halo never lived up to the hype which, sans Microsoft, Bungie probably would have managed to live up to.
I blame consoles and the need to appeal to gamers aged 8-80 in one game. Bungie would've ignored that and done their own thing. Microcrap suits of course ruin everything.

Yup. Think Force Recon with a 3rd person chase camera. The plot was going to be slightly different, as well. Microsoft came on board and said, "Nope. Half Life in space. With a super-soldier. That'll be freakin' sweet!"
Not that I dislike the current incarnation of Halo. I just know that Bungie sans Microsoft could've done 10x better. See also: Marathon.
