Scott Adams apologises at some point in more or less every dilbert book for inadvertantly offending people time and time again. He doesn't claim it is wrong to be offended, merely that from time to time you just plain can't avoid it.
I remember in one he compares it to being tired, eating something and then not being tired anymore. If I can't tell the difference between my own tiredness and hunger, he argues, how can I ever be expected to understand your feelings?

The issue is not why he posted something offensive but why he feels the need to complain about it.
