Software and databases inevitably break, nothing you do can stop that... Second, you have no idea how CCP works internally, so making outcries about it, is simply ludricous.
maybe we dont know the internal workings of the CCP office but we can clearly see the flawes in the quality of service that constantly pops up every day. that is still the bottomline for customers and customers in the end cares for the quality of service not how many flowers each programmer has on their desk.

Above a certain number depending on complexity and size of the task chucking more and more resources at a problem is a case of diminishing returns... -- Users are like a virus - each causing a thousand tiny crises until the host finally dies. |

I know they are not handling the problem because the server crashes repeatedly! Its not rocket science bud.

Originally by: Kirjava I concur - CCP needs more people working on stabalising the server.... I don't care that people are specced in one area (content) - hire more people. Do not spend money on hiring MORE content people to create shiny new toys - yes toys are good, but leave their budget as is. I say a post that 120 people have quit in the last hour and won't be renewing (it's in the main serever is dead post). Dont care how.... or how much money it costs to your proffits.... you have no share holders - I have asked before so shareholders cannot be blamed for proffits needed - fix the server please.
CCP may well have shares, and probably does. they are just held by individuals.
They probably have like 10 shares held by 5 people.

So the second you put people on the problem it's magically fixed is it? You're not an expert, you don't know what's going on and you certainly aren't in any position to tell CCP the best course of action to take so stop crying like a spoiled brat who's had his favourite toy taken away.

I'm not crying, I'm stating an opinion. And I used to run an dial up isp in the 90's. If my service had crashed this much i would have been fired and replaced with a person who could do the job at hand.

Ah, but it IS very much like rocket science, even harder I would suggest. Just not as exothermic when it goes boom.
My university (Indiana University) is said by others to have one of the best IT systems in the country. And yet it can't handle the first week of classes with everyone checking schedules online. It takes up to three days for their email to show sent mail in the sent folder. And attachments submitted over the internet class tools tend to get stripped off.
In the meantime our Bureau of Motor Vehicles had an upgrade last year that went so wrong they said it would be a full year before they know how many car registrations they lost in the shuffle, and see which are new registrations and which file for renewals.
The factory I worked at a few years ago had an upgrade that went so well it was several weeks before they were able to actually track product using their own system.
So yeah, changes to software/hardware in the real world are just as complex and as testy as reworking a rocket engine.

Edited by: Sicori Malaki on 15/09/2007 15:15:15 I lol'ed at this thread.
it's not as simple as just "hire new people and fix it". First off they have to "find" the new people, that can take days if not weeks (I think they have already hired every IT guy in iceland so they have to look for people internationally), it's not as simple as going into the next 7-11 and buy 10 SQL experts as someone already mentioned.
Then when you do get your 10 SQL experts, you have to get them to adjust to how the servers are set up, since I seriously doubt Eve's database cluster is just a "run of the mill" SQL database. So they have to take their already adjusted and well knowing SQL experts away from actually fixing the problem and to teach the new guys how things are, which can take days if not weeks, So yes, maybe CCP needs additional staff and I'm sure they are already looking for them but by the time the new database guys can actually start helping out with problems relating to the database the problem affecting us NOW will already be fixed by the existing database guys.
Eve's Cluster is one of the fastest and most powerful computer clusters on the planet, I read in some tech article that by 2008 it will already be in the top 10 list, thats no small feat.
and mr ISP guy, you can't compare running a ISP service to running a supercluster, thats just moronic.

I have to agree. But be careful, he's using logic and common sense. The standard forum troll doesn't understand these two points. ---

I hate to be the ***** who quote the EULA but section 12 states ...
Quote: NO WARRANTIES The Software, System, Game and all Game Content, and all other services and material provided in connection therewith, are provided "AS IS," with all faults, and without warranty of any kind. You assume all risk of use and all risk associated with accessing the System and playing the Game.
CCP disclaims all warranties, whether express or implied, including without limitation the warranties of merchantability, fitness for particular purpose and non-infringement. There is no warranty against interference with your enjoyment of the Game. CCP does not warrant that the operation of the System or your access to the System, or that your use of the Software, will be uninterrupted or error-free, nor that the System or Software will be compatible with your hardware and software.
While CCP attempts to have the System available at most times, CCP does not guarantee that the System will always be available, or that the System will not become unavailable during Game play. The System may become unavailable for a number of reasons, including without limitation during the performance of maintenance to the System, for the implementation of new software, for emergency situations and due to equipment or telecommunications failures.
does anyone actually read the EULA? or do you just press "accept" as soon as it pops up? ______________ Only in the Tales that humans tell, do the hunters kill the wolf in the end.
