As we all know,Blizzard is now owned by Activision, one of the largest gamging companies (Call of Duty series) and also one of the biggest pushers of SOPA.
Heres my question: is it fair to protest/boycott Activision by boycotting/protesting Blizzard games? I'm assuming Blizzard themselves are against SOPA (MMO communities thrive on user-based content) but if Activision does get profits from D3, am I then supporting Activision? |

Terminate Activision.

Doesn't matter what Blizzard thinks or believes they are owned by Activision and take their marching orders from Activison. Just like Bioware is owned by EA doesn't matter what Bioware employees or company thinks they are EA just a part of the over all company. Blizzard and AV are one company.
SOPA is not going pass. |

not exactly activison does give blizzard much autonomy, they would damn stupid to control them like a puppet, that same thing happened to maxis and there pretty much dead now. kotic is smart enough not to milk a gold goose too hard...
but i don't think blizzard itself is worried about piracy seeing its an MMO its kind of hard to get the most out of it without being a legit customer.
PS: hate anything that tramples on the people without it benefting them somehow... at least the patriot act improved securtiy... it was a bad idea but still...
PSS: anyways, shouldn't this be in the out of pod experience fourum? |

Oh sorry, yes it should be. I'm used to general discussion threads being that (missed the EVE part). The thread needs to be moved.
But SOPA will probably be passed. Maybe not this week or next month, or even under this name, but it will be passed. The language will be changed, people will stop caring over time, etc. |

No it is not going to pass even the people who wrote the bill have abandoned it. SOPA is like Year 2000 "the world is coming to an end" bullshit. To be honest people don't have some human right to steal from other people's work and investment. And yes downloading games and music and movies and book that you don't pay for is stealing people are damned thieves if they do so. |

Time to educate the unwashed masses I guess. Activision Blizzard is a holding corporation which owns Blizzard and Activision (headed by the devil CEO Kotick), both corporations act independently of each other as each retained their corporate leadership. Activision Blizzard is in turn owned by Vivendi.

At the end of the day it's still silly to attribute any of this to Blizzard. Even if 'Blizzard' had signed off on it in a press release, you're still talking about the bean counters not the people who make games. All of these names are just words representing large numbers of individualss and any given person in any given gaming company could be for or against any given legislation you don't like.
Are you going to start boycotting certain classes in games because their designer is pro-life? Lets not use a certain area because the map was laid out by someone who supports the party we don't like? Don't post on a forum because the mods are uncertain of their position on waterboarding? I heard the EVE team behind the Assault Frig buffs are all about gun control. We should never fly frigs again!
The top people shouldn't have a say in our legislation above any other citizen in the first place. Call your congressmen and give him an ear full for giving a **** what the top guy in Vivendi thinks just because his lobbyist made it worth their while. |

They merged. What part do you nasty unwashed dummies miss? Mythic thought they contained control of Mythic when EA took over. Blizzard has no freedom if the day comes Corporate tell them what to do. GE is made up of 7 major companies but do you seriously think the CEO of GE Power or GE Medical dosen't answer to GE CEO Immelt? Should educate yourself before writing.
Artistic and day to day freedoms has not a damn thing to do with Corporate stance on politics laws etc. |

having been once a corporate slave-wager myself, I can assure you not even the slightest bit of hope, fun, potential or spirit can be had within ANY TYPE of corporation at all, and even the smallest shreds of individuality are crushed to the lowest common denominator, which is the zombie slave, affixed to a set of quotas to fill, regardless of their being as his paycheck is slowly drained away by the government's taxes and hidden fees you will never fully understand by your bank.
The MMO Industry and the video game industry in general is a huge monolith of sheer stagnation that consumes talented souls and excretes the most nauseabund of ***** ever to reek the surface of the earth.
When I'm being digested, as I surely will, I will do all my best to glut the internal tracts to make them die of the most horrendous case of fecal impaction and as I flee into the afterlife leaving behind my malformed half digested soul I will laugh maniacally as I gaze upon the noxious carcass of the behemoth I made explode with their own excreta.
Any semblance of structure within an organization sadly degrades into the utter monstrosity of a corporation. A natural evolution of sorts. That's perhaps why in Michael Moorcock's tale of the Multiverse regarding the force of law it shows the unhealthy side of rigidity and stagnation.

Dust is also being released on Sony's console. Perhaps you should boycott CCP because they make deals with Sony, seeing as Sony is a rather large supporter of SOPA. |
