havent flown any missions in a long time and now that i am back to it it seems that my drones take more aggro than ever before.
just doing enemies abound 4of5 and it is the most annoying experience ever.
the last room is just painfull. to the point where i decided its easier to tank full stage aggro than to loose another expensive hammerhead.
is ccp considering some sort of balance? or do i have to learn torps and cruise?
i thought surely these missions should be possible for guns and drones just as much as missles.
missions? fun? not really :(

use sentry drones instead. Much less agro problems as they can't wander off on their own accord.

Not had any problems... they only tend to take agro if I move out of the mobs range or if more ships warp in.
JUst recall and hten redeploy.

i am using sentries and i agree they are fantastic.
what frustrates me with missions is the weirdness in aggro distribution.
the missions that seem to be designed to spread agro amongst multiple ships if you go in with a group are harsh on your drones.
enemies about 4of5 is a good example.
you warp into the last stage and 5 inties, a BS and three sentries aggro.
fair enough.
there is also 3 more BS plus frigs in the back seemingly doing nothing. now those sitting in the back will agro any thing else that warps into the stage or shows itself.
sentries are not a good option because the initial agro is right on top of you. so you play deploy/scoop for ever yet even with durability drones are paper thin. thats ok, any thing else would over power them.
But clearly this stage was designed to give groups a bit of a hard time.
in a raven i would just sit there, missle spam et voila.
after 20 minutes of scoop n drop i dediced it sucks and aggroed every thing. that worked.
yet there is plenty other missions out there with the same problematic design.
lost one hammehead II in this mission. thats the bonus completion money gone. :(
i know now why i didnt bother with missions for so long. maybe i get reborn as a raven pilot. then i ll consider it.

Sentries seem to aggro ships that other drones won't aggro.

with sentries you just need to be very careful.
have multiple targets locked and immediately give order to attack the new target when the other pops.
alternatively scoop them as soon as target dies and redeploy.
otherwise you are right if left unattended for 5 seconds after the target dies they will shoot willy nilly.

Actually, the mere act of deploying sentries in certain missions has immediately aggroed groups who aren't aggroed by other drones in the past. But you're right about having to babysit sentries.
