Simple enough question. I started as Amarr and am planning to get into PVP eventually.. Was it a mistake or should I really go for a different racial Ship anyway? At this point I do not have too many skills invested in Amarr Specifically. FrigatesIV and Small Turret V for the most part.

I fly Amarr and they work well enough for me. It does take a good amount of skillpoints to start seeing the effectiveness of them, but they do have some pretty good ships.
Also, I will just say what I always say in these threads. Fly whatever the hell you want to fly. Don't go by how effective something is now, because that will change as the game goes on. You need to be flying a race that you enjoy flying, not a race that you are flying because it's the uber race of the moment, however long that moment may be.

Well, i'm reletivly new (week and a half?) and was thinking of going Amarr for the Great Armor Tanking and then Projectile Turrets for the no cap and everything. But then again, I like the speed of the minmar, though I'm not sure how effective their higher up ships are and am not sure which path to go. And right now, i'm training up minmar frigates to see how I like the "Up close and personal" attack

Well, the projectiles on Amarr ships only applies to a certain few of them. In this case the Punisher, Maller and Apocalypse, and in some cases the Abaddon. Otherwise it is better to use lasers.
Minmatar ships are based around speed and hit and run for the most part. They do have some ships with capable tanks, but in those cases it is often better to look at Gallente or Amarr. Minmatar ships rarely like to get too close to an enemy, as that makes it harder to run away. Instead, they make use of the huge falloff range their guns get.
Ships that most Minmatar pilots would be flying when they get to the higher levels of their skills would probably be the Vagabond, Huginn/Rapier and Sleipnir/Claymore. Some people are still quite fond of battleships, and in those cases most often use the Tempest. The Typhoon is also used as a speed ship, but much less than it was since the ridiculous speed set-ups were nerfed.

Thanks a million, I think i'm gonna stick with amarr and lasers in the long run and train up minmar frigates for fun. Thanks --------------------------------------------- "I can only regret that i only have one life to live for my gallaxy'" -Agent103

Apparently you haven't seen the sheer volume of damage an Auto cannon can do. I personally Get up close and kiss my targets, Dual 800 II's tears **** up. 425 II's stir fry targets in the Sleip, and I can CHOOSE my damage type. - Nuff said.

Projos on an Amarr ship can be useful, especially when the enemy isn't expecting them, i.e. they're tanked to resist lasers.
But there's also a reason so many ships get boni for projos: the guns need it. They fire very slowly, so without the RoF and sometimes tracking bonus, they're not very good in protracted fights.
Also there's a reason Armageddon's are often called primary: their RoF bonus makes them nasty against almost any target. Even if you can resist a lot of EM and Thermal, that much coming so quickly is still gonna hurt.
Then there's the Arbitrator-hulled ships, which can pack a nasty punch. Or really almost any of the ships if the pilot can play to its strengths and minimize its weaknesses.
The problem is learning these strengths and weaknesses, which is much harder than for most of the other races when PvPing.
I used to get It. Then It changed. Now I don't even know what It is.
