I been playing just a little under a month, and today I quit the industrial corp I'd been a member of for a little over a week, reason being that we were constantly wardec'd by at least one pirate corp and it was just too much of a pain in the ass to deal with highsec pirates all the time for the chance to make a few million extra ISK on the weekends hauling for mining ops.
Which makes me think - what's the point of joining a highsec industrial corp at all? In the noob corp you don't pay taxes, nobody can wardec you, and there's always lots of people to BS with if you get bored while shooting rocks. There just doesn't see to be much advantage to me. But maybe I'm missing something.. hence post.

The comraderie of a smaller corp (smaller than NPC) outweighs npc corps, and in my case outweighs any other corp in eve (in my eyes of course). Nothing beats knowing you have friends who will pledge their allegiance to you, your corp & your alliance and its space to play with the big toys and the big boys.
Honestly though, if you cant handle a pirate war dec... in empire, dont ever move to 0.0.

- Better advice than the garbage you get in the rookie help channel.
- Less of the stupid annoying lies/epeen contests/spam from the npc corp channel.
- High sec POS access.
- Someone to chat with.
- Someone to haul while you mine.
- A cooperative goal to build towards (presumably moving to 0.0 eventually).

I don't mind being wardec'd and having to hide, or arrange for protection, or move, or whatever, just as long as I get something out of it.
My old corp wasn't part of any alliances, didn't have a POS, and the usual reaction to wardecs was poke the CEO until he hired a merc corp, and/or hide so it cost them more to keep us wardec'd than they were getting loot and wait till they got tired of paying for it.
I dunno though.. there's a corp that's part of the North Star Alliance that's told me I can join if I want.. they have a 7.5% tax rate but they seem to have better protection and more defined goals (they build capital ships).. I might give them a go, or I might stay in noobcorp until I get into my mining barge and get my learning skills up. *shrug*

I think our OP here wants to make the point here that it happens nearly constantly, hence not leaving any room for peaceful corps to actually develop themselves or get the chance to get up to speed.
I think this is another proof that eve is getting too crowded -----------------------------------------------

I recommend the NPC corps if you truly want to play the game solo for a period of time and fatten the wallet.
Nobody messes with you, nobody talks to you, nobody taxes you....you get rich.
Of course this gets boring after while but if your only goal is to make isk in Empire, it really is the best way to go.
You will have people tell you that the quickest way to make isk is in a corp as a grp but that is crap. In a corp, you are on everyone else's schedule and then when you finally do something, you divide everything up.

You'd join them to fight half-assed wannabe pirates declaring war on high-sec industrial outfits.

At the danger of upsetting people, there is a lot of rather useless, oh-whatever, clueless corps out there. Some are carebears, some dabble in 0.0, some are empire warriors. They usually think of themselves really highly, but aren't really organised. From my experience with them, it's usually a case of guild/clan mentality. A corp, to them is just a group of friends out for a laugh. For the most part, that's fine. It's a way to play and if they are happy, cool. But, in eve, it's called corp for a reason. It's a business more than anything else. To really achieve something, you really need to act like a business, and for most, that's just too much work to put into a game. So in short, for the casual player, in a casual corp, there is little point in actually having the corp. To make it worth it, it takes a fairly serious corp. A serious corp will expect something back of course, even if it's only tax. In my opinion, anything up to 20% is an ok tax rate, provided you get enough benefits back from your corp. |

Big thing is to find one that has some Goals. If the corp has no goals then your going to find that its probably isn't going anywhere. A corp thats in an Alliance offers up some other opportunities that a solo corp may not. Mainly being able to possible switch corps to one that fits your play style better while remaining with friends. -----------------------------------------------

if they
a) have taxes
and
b) don't have a high sec POS or something substantial to offer you
Don't join. You're better off in an NPC corp. Incidentally I have a pos and don't charge taxes. I wouldn't see the point of even asking people to join me if it was the other way around. There really isn't any point to charging taxes in empire space and not giving something back.
