Almost every time I load EVE, it is getting stuck after the "Got Units" part of the procedure. There is a lot of internet activity, and data is being downloaded.
I'm not sure what this data is, but I know it doesn't do it every single time, so I'm assuming it's automatically replacing a lost/corrupted file.
Does anyone else get this frustrating problem, or am I the only one? Do the EVE devs even know?

i have the same problem. lot of internet activity before "got units" part.
yes the devs know this. I'v been bombarding them with messages for 2months now and they dont know why it doesn't work.

I know this is pretty basic, but have you tried a full reinstall?
Perhaps fix the files it is having troubles with?

I have this problem too. I get it mainly after a CTD or system freeze. Can take up to 10 mins to relog, not pretty or funny if it happens during NPC activity.

This happens to be no matter which way I exit the game.
When I use "Login Screen", sometimes I just get a black screen, and have to use task manager to exit the game, but sometimes the login screen actually appears, and I close that.
When I use "Quit Game", it always just exits.
Clicking on the close button in windowed mode has the same effect as "Quit Game".
All three of these methods seem to cause it to corrupt some data, and all three have also had no effect. (Allowed me to start normally next time).
I sincerely hope the developers aren't pursuing this because they just don't get the problem as badly as us non-broadband users. To those of us on 56k< this is a painfully frustrating problem.

This has been brought of very often and every single time there's been no official response as to why it's happening or what's going to be done about it. I run the eve logger every time and it's around 1mb of stuff gets downloaded at around 4k/s for me using ADSL :(
I've had some new ones today too, when I've tried to dock it sometimes decides to download 500k of something at a stupidly low download rate. Twice it's took me more than 20 minutes just to dock. I'm thinking of petitioning/bug reporting but I'm not sure what CCP can do. However I feel these problems should be high up on the CCP list because no matter how great the additions/changes are to the game, they count for nothing if the user is frustrated at trying to log in and session change. :(

Bumping before this reaches page 2 obscurity. This is something which affects a lot of people that I know and in my opinion requires a response, even if to say 'There's not much we can do about it at the moment :('

The game is sometimes very slow on session change for me too, but it has never taken me 20 minutes to dock (yet). On the other hand, my internet connection is not slow, so I wouldn't notice if it downloaded one or two mb as it will only take a few seconds.
Anyway, it's something that CCP has to fix. It seems like something is very inefficient somewhere...

Me too. When I log in I can select my character just fine. But then I end up staring at a black screen for five minutes. People can see I'm on line at this time but all I have is a black screen. Then all of a sudden I'm on.
During this time if I hit escape and get the options window.
If I've had a ctd while on I can get back on and the black screen lasts less than a minute. But...I get no one in my chat windows, I can't get the system drop downs in the upper left, I can't get my people places window, and I can't jump or enter/leave a station. Then, poof it all comes up all of a sudden about five minutes later.
All this time data is being downloaded. Do I need to clear some data from my Eve folder somehow?

I get this randomly too. More often when its an unclean exit - ie my dialup times out while the game is still running. I think its downloading a new cache file...
Very annoying when you need to get back in quick. Then again, maybe its a positive thing to hinder the logout - login gate pirates. Do wonder why my buddied pirates seem to very frequently go on/off line....

I have the same issue. Login takes forever sometimes. Also the forum is pretty slow most of the time.
