I get tired of all the apologists who defend CCP lag with trite throw-aways like "Jita is only bad on Sundays." For most of the day today--Monday, not Sunday--Jita has been unplayably slow with delays on opening contracts and cargo cans of 3-5 seconds each!
Has anyone else experienced such lag?
With 190,000 paying EVE customers and game time costing $11-15/month, CCP collects from us $2.1-2.8 million/month ($25-34 million/year). Server upgrades? |

Jita is ALWAYS bad not just Sundays. Jita is a very poor place to be at any time.

Jita gets these different types of lag. Sometimes lag is due to very many players being present in same system. You see it gets worse as number slowly increase. Sometimes it gets this random lag even when numbers of players in system are low, low 400s or high 300s. Also there is usually lag 1-2 hours before downtime. As the message pops up that dt is near boom! the lag comes. All these types of lag do not affect only Jita but can exist in other systems as well, but Jita has them most often.
If you got a problem, go to a nearby system and don't enter Jita unless you have something to pick up or drop off. Do not base there or run missions or use contract system or market. All these things can be done from other systems in vicinity. Otherwise make a detailed plan what exactly you think they should do to get rid of lag once and for all. Because they have been working on it and lag has improved, but it is just much more easy to dismiss the improvements and cry "do something about lag!" over and over again than to actually have a practical plan on how to make lag go away once and forever. And unless you have some specifics on how to really fix the lag problem just saying again that it should be fixed isn't going to bring any fruit. I'm sure players file enough petitions about it every single day.

I'm looking forward to the future improvement of having multiple nodes dedicated to Jita (and other systems) as specified by a DEV blog.
My point with this thread it to dispel the common myth that Jita lag is limited to Sundays. As you wrote, it clearly is not.

how about you go somewhere else? dodixe, oursulaert, amarr, rens, etc etc etc etc
there are enough trading hubs.
stop whining and go somehwere else.

I'm not, because once CCP makes it feasable for 2000 people to use Jita, people will flock there and then you lemmings will be right back on the forums, whining about how CCP doesn't care about lag and how all the "CCP apologists are really just whoring themselves out for 'the man'" or something.

No one is saying there is only lag in Jita on Sundays. It's just that it is especially bad on Sundays.
Seriously though. I don't know what crappy connections/computers you people are using, but I am in Jita nearly every day, and while there is always lag, it is very rare that I get lag that is more than a mere nuisance. And by "mere nuisance" I mean 4-5 second delays for some things to happen (like say between buying something and it appearing in your hangar) and 8-10 second delay on undock at the worst.

If you absolutely must go to Jita, do as much as you can in a nearby system. Stop in Perimeter or New Caldari and conduct your market activities from there. Then run in, load up your cargo bay, and run out.
When exiting the Jita 4-4 Navy station, I find it helpful to immediately warp to the 4-4 Business station. It's almost straight ahead, and you can usually get into warp before bumping into too many people. That station doesn't have the mass of ships around it, and you can then actually align and warp in any direction without interference.

No one is claiming it ONLY laggs on Sundays! Jita is ALWAYS laggy, but even that lag is even worse on Sundays!
I am not defending CCP! But by dam I am not defending the players either, sicne if they are stupid enough to go there, deserves what they got!
Have you seen all the posts that are made of this topic? theres like 10 every day! But still people cant understand simple logic: When system gets overcrowded, lag do happend! There is nothing CCP can do about it, since anything humans produce - like computers - are limited by its nature! And that limitation creates LAG when 600 people are doing stuff in ONE system!
I know theres no point saying it, you and many with you will never learn anyway. But get out of Jita! There are 5000 other systems in EVE, and Jita aint the only one where you can do your business!

Do something about Jita...let's see, right now there are around 34,000 players on. Let's add 10% to that [a very safe underestimate] to get total account holders at around 44,000 players. Even if only 50% of those pay the $15 per month and the other half play with ISK bought ETCs, that's {22000 *15} around $330,000 per month in direct income. Of course, allow for all different types of currency and exchange rates so let's settle down to approx a quarter of a million dollars in income per month. Something tells me they don't use up all that on salaries. Why don't they take some out of that and get a dedicated server just for the crowded systems like Jita. Their biggest brag is their single server game [and, it IS a well deserved bragging right]. I am guessing this to really mean single server-farm where all the servers are hooked up to act as one to handle game wide requests/processes. Well, stop and really put just one server by itself to handle nothing but all of the processes of Jita. Get one for each and every heavy travelled system in the entire EVE galaxy. Right now I am not sure if my character made it into Jita or not. I logged out of game after staring at frozen screen after trying to jump into Jita from Sobaseki for ten, yes TEN!, minutes. I tried logging in with my other account and the alt I leave in Jita and cannot even log in with that one. No offense but it's pathetic. Yes, I am greedy and I do indeed have to go into Jita. Why? Well, it's the best place to sell my rigs and other items thanks.

Ghola Bashar: They do have a dedicated node for Jita. Unfortunately they need more than a single node for Jita, they need multiple nodes, but at the moment their code doesn't allow for that. They will try to fix it eventually, but it doesn't sound like a particularly easy job.
The problem is that, as people have pointed out over and over again, if you increase the performance of a system like Jita, and therefore remove the lag for the people currently in it, more and more people will pile in until it ends up exactly the same as it was before. Queue whining of epic proportions about how CCP sucks and "what was the point of the upgrade, nothing changed".
