hi there this is kinda confusing for me, i just want to make sure which works best to prevent target locks on my ship, and i've seen ECM devices, ECCM devices, some show sensor strengths of -4 some show +8, also can a specific unit be recommended?? thanks in advance for any help at all..

ECM modules are used to jam enemy ships. When you see that they have a -X strength, that means that module will jam that many sensors points. An ECCM module, which shows a +X strength, will boost your sensor strength to counter jamming. To help prevent target jams on your ship, get one or more ECCM modules that specifically boost the sensor strength of the type ship. Caldari ships use Gravimetric, Gallente use Magnetometric, Amarr use Radar, Minmatar use Ladar.

ECM (Electronic Counter Measures) Helps reduce the chance of your ship being locked-on.
ECCM (Electronic Counter Counter Measures) Helps reduce the chance of your locked-on attempt being reduce by ECM. |

Wow this does get confusing, ok so to prevent someone from locking on to my ship do i need an ECM device or ECCM device? sorry if i sound ignant

ECM device to stop people to locking on to you ship.
(The ECCM is to stop ECM being used against you when your targeting something)

ECM devices are used to stop a target, from targetting anyone.
If you use a ECM device on a target, this is considered a hostile act, much like shooting your gun...
ECCM devices are used to stop somebody from using their ECM devices on you.
The only way to stop somebody who is locking on your ship, is to effectively remove their targetting ability, which would be to use ECM devices, or Remote Sensor Dampeners.

Your ship has a sensor strength. Show info on your ship, and scroll down in attributes, and you will see something like- ladar strength 4
If someone uses a -4 multispec you have 0 left, and cannot target.
If you fit a +2 lowslot eccm and show info on your ship.. you will now have 6 ladarstrength.
If someone uses a -4 multispec on you, you still have +2 strength remainng, and can target them.
The only way to prevent someone from locking you, is to take their sensor strength to 0, or less. ie -4.
Frigs cruisers, and bships all have different levels of sensor strength.
Each race has it's own type of sensor strength as well.
Caldari grav.
Gallente mag
Amarr radar
Minmatar ladar
Their are race specific jammers that do -6 to one type of sensor strength.
Their are also multispectral jammers, that do -4 to all sensor types. These burn a ton of capacitor btw, 50 every 10sec or so. Will take 4 to jam most battleships, unless they have eccm fitted.
Takes 3 race specific -6 jammers = -18 to jam most bships.
Bear in mind, jamming someone is a hostile act. Sentries and concorde will not look on it favorably should u do it in empire space.
