Allright - within a month I plan on getting into invention and having a POS that can support copying and expand a bit in the near future. When I sell off the HAC I am finishing off building I will have just over 3 billion in the kitty. Medium POS, 6 adv labs and BPO plus fuel leaves me with 1Billion for datacores and T2 components.... Assuming I want to get money back out of this, is 1 Billion in datacores enough to see an average proffit for Ishtar?...

Ships & Invention is like Drinking & Driving. Just don't.
Ok, not a 100% true, but ships invention is often much more demanding on cash reserves than module invetion. 1B sounds a bit low for funds to run this.

Do the math. Ship invention with maxed out skills = 25% of a ship.
For the invention job you need datacores, bpc, and optionally a tech1 ship and/or encryptor thingies to boost your chances.
Cost of one job * 4 (25%) = 1 ship bpc the = could be < or > depending on your buildcosts skills etc.

17M*4=68M 68/3=22.6 22.6+35=57.6 So yea it is proffitable - the inventions not as proffitable as buying off market but at least it gives me a steady supply of bpc. Thanks to both of you

Just this morning I worked out a means of estimating start-up capital requirements, which I've now added to my invention spreadsheet. My research services Spreadsheets: Top speed calculation - Halo Implant stats |

You should definitely add some decryptors because your formula may be then : Cost of one job * 10 (25%*0.4) = 9/10 ships BPC (depends on runs of input BPC)

I have been inventing Vagabonds and Sabres for several months now on less capital than what you are starting with, and it has been successful in the long run. I purchased the following.
Stabber BPO Thrasher T2 Components BPO's 1 Medium POS 3 Labs
I do have 5 research agents 4 doing mech engineering 1 doing starship engineering and get a lot of cores from this. I still buy some though.
Decryptors, you will want to buy decryptors, or do exploration for them. You gain a lot from decryptors in the amount of extra runs you get per copy.
Get yourself going, copy as many of your own BPC's as possible, buy when you need to.

Depending on how you do it, roughly a third of T2 ships are profitable atm in terms of invention. But the amount of work and capital means the margins are very low.
Of course if you can supply yourself with BPCs, Datacores and Decryptors to a large extent this will reduce the capital need and make you less vulnerable to streaks of bad luck depleting your resourses.
Ship invention has roughly 25% success rate (modified with decryptors) the math is: Which decryptor is the most cost efficient? (rate of success, runs produced and waste factor of the invented BPC) Is max run BPC worth it for the extra run?
How much of the capital reqs can I supply through mining, exploration, R&D agents and hacking plexes? How much will I have to buy for isk? Will the profits pay for the running of my POS and then some?
Hope this helps
Selling PERFECT PRINTS of every seeded T1 BPO: modules, rigs, drones, ammo and ships (4 ships missing), and most capital modules too! Selling any INVENTED T2 BPC by order! Can build also! |
