Do you think the trial is best spent playing one character and taking it as far as possible in 14 days or trying out a few different races/characters? Which gives you a fuller appreciation of the game?

1 Character as far as possible. Then if you want to see more of the different races start another trial account when first trial ends. ___________

I think 1 char. It gives you a chance to see more of the game. Bigger ships, more interesting components, get more involved in the economy, etc. I got all the way into a cruiser in my trial. That got me to see frigates, destroyers, and cruisers. I learned about afterburners, shield tanking, hybrid guns, missiles, etc. I ran a ton of missions and actually made it to level 2 missions. Got into salvaging and made a nice bit of cash. And, I really suggest reading the forums! TONS of great info and alot of good stuff to help clarify my questions (really fast responses too!)

Both I would say if you feel the need. Find ships you like most by trying out different races. Get a better knowledge of the game by taking your character as far as it can go in 14 days. You can always start up a second trial after your first one is done. Make sure to pick good attribute distribution for your main character as many people make some wrong choices then regret them months even years later.

That's what I'm doing to a certain extent. I'm halfway through my trial, having spent most of it levelling up my Gallente character. I decided to try out a couple of others for a change and now I think I might prefer my Minmatar character. If I hadn't tried out other characters I suspect that I would have just continued with my Gallente character after the trial

The problem with trying out non-military/mining occupations during the trial is that you don't get to experience them in a meaningful way (more than a combat pilot could do with a few hours training) without lots more skill training. You can make things fairly quickly, but it takes some training time to make them cheap enough to compete, you can't even get close to doing research or making rigs in the time you have.
Personally, I would try a single combat character (at least until I discovered I didn't like that form of combat, e.g., maybe missles aren't my thing after all). I would do some mining and maybe learn enough to be able to make something simple (and cheap) to see what manufacturing is about.
However, the whole idea of the trial is to be sure you want to plop down your hard earned cash on the game so you need to do whatever it is that answers that question for you.

for training, take one as far as it will go, and it more or less has to be a combat route. Some of the required skills cant even be learned while on trial.
But you are free to create alts, you get different tutorial missions, and they give you some insight into whats involved with some of the other paths.
