Does it make sense that Racial bonuses are applied to the ships and not the characters?
I mean yeah, the race's expertise would gift the craft with certain abilities, but those would be part of it's basic armament. It's the doctrine of the race's navies wihich train people for the specific skills in their art of war, so it should be the toons which carry the bonuses, and not the ships? After all - it's the pilot who has the experience of using the defensive and offensive tools, not the ship.
The ships should have base stats as per usual and a base style of fitting based on the slots available and hardpoints, but the pilot should determine the bonuses as they are the one with the abilities.
For example: a Caldari pilot flying a Gallente ship would Gift it with missile/hybrid and shield skills where as a galente pilot would gift a Caldari ship with hybrid and armour skills.
Why? Because it makes more sense! __________________________ Nice forum - I'll take it! |

If you implement something like that then there is no reason to have race specific ships at all. Every race would have the same ships called "The frigate sized, 4-high slot, 4-mid slot, 3-low slot ship"
Having the attributes attached to the ship, rather than the player, forces choices in how/what ships to fly. If I want Range, I sacrifice damage and vice versa. If I want increased capacitor, I sacrifice damage output. If I want increased _____ I sacrifice _____. Its the Ethos of this game that you give and take. With your idea, I think that ethos changes to get whatever you want.
On a second note, attaching the boosts to the character, rather than the ship severely limits the character as far as choices. If he wants one thing, he'll never get the other.

Then a split bonus - half the bonus to the ship and half to the pilot because of their skill at using them __________________________ Nice forum - I'll take it! |

I can use it but maybe you can't? The way the game works in this manner just makes no sense.
A pilot trained to use shields my his military academy, should be proficient enough to be able to improve the shields of any ship.
Some ships should be naturally better at shield or armour tanking, but if the pilot was not trained in such techniques, then the pilot should not get as much of a bonus to those techniques, comprende? __________________________ Nice forum - I'll take it! |

Edited by: Some Caldari on 22/09/2007 11:25:25 It's like that already in the form of support skills. With the right level 5s you can for example get 25% better shield capacity and 25% better recharge and use 10% less capacitor for shield boosters on any ship. (Even shuttles with Templars assigned to them)
It's better is the main bonus is attached to the ship as it helps make the ships different rather then just: Ship - 3/4/2 slot layout - Gallente skin 3 ------------

I think you're missing the point entirely.
Yes there are support skilsl which anyone can learn to improve their aspects of their ships, but there are some things which you should only be able to learn in your race's academy, with the said bonus applied to what ever ship you pilot. __________________________ Nice forum - I'll take it! |

Problem with that is EvE has always made a point of every character no matter what race and profession can, in time, use every singly module, ship and skill in the game. If you start sealing off ability or bonus effects to just one race then it'll break that point.
Plus there'll be at least 10 times more forum whines if it was introduced. ------------

People would still would be able to in time use every single module, ship and skill just that each race would be a few% better at their racial traits than a pilot with equivalent skills from another race. Imagine having a few % armour tanking bonus on a raven because of an amarr/gallente pilot was in the saddle. You'd expect them to shield tank, it it would open up new opportunities for existing ships or just give existing opportunities a better chance of survival. __________________________ Nice forum - I'll take it! |
