I have no problem setting up a macro for firing all my missiles at the same time, but when I try to make a macro for mid slots, it activates the high slots.
Is there a trick to make macro's for mid or low slots?
The way I am during it is pressing the "MR" button, then pressing the "G#" key I want, lets say G17. Then I press and hold "Left Alt" and then press "F2" and then "F3" and then let go of "Left Alt" and then press the "MR" button to stop recording. But then when I test it, it acts as if I only pressed F2 and F3.

Yeah, a macro for hitting all the keys at once is alright. Dev approved, no I don't have a link.
Try programming the macro with time, hold alt and then hit the F# keys, then release alt. I remember I had issues with it too so I just stopped bothering with it.

Most gaming keyboards/keypads have Macros or multifunction key presses, to apply it to EVE you could program a single key press that would use a cap booster charge and run 2 rep cycles or a single key press to lock target and fire your full rack of weapons .
Whether this is considered illegal under the EVE EULA I cant really say but my personal opinion is that its not really cheating or anything as your not setting up a series of commands and going afk and letting it mine for you or something and I see it as no different to just using a custom keyset in any game or buttons on a gaming mouse.

Diffrence here is with the G15 you actually have to hit a key for the macro to start and stop its like programming a one key press to activate 6 key presses per see, unlike the mining macro where you set it up hit whatever to start it anf leave the keyboard and go to bed. Hence the G15 is allowed you have to be phisically at the keyboard to use it . Hijackzorzzzz

Edited by: Cedric Diggory on 22/09/2007 20:00:14 It's a can of worms, and the EULA is pretty explicit. I could use a macro program to bind F1-F8 to another single unused key on my generic keyboard, and if discovered I believe I would be hit with the ban stick. Why should this be any different for someone who can afford a more expensive keyboard than I?
Surely in the interest of fairness, it should be one rule for all? Macro software is not allowed, and if I understand correctly you use software to setup the binds on your swish keyboards...
Quote: Also GG to ccp if they can ever prove someone is using a keybind macro...
Indeed. GG to CCP if they can prove the use of any macro software at all without the use of invasive software, which to the best of my knowledge is not a part of the eve client.

The G15 is explicitly allowed, has a massive thread in the development forums asking CCP to make EVE more compatible with it and if I recall there are even a few devs that have admitted to using it so stop whining. Honestly, of all the f***ing things I've seen people whine about on the forum you take the cake with, it's unfair that they "can afford a more expensive keyboard than I."
Grow up, shut up or just spend $60 on a keyboard! Whichever you decide, stop whining!

A macro is a macro is a macro: End of story. It's implicitly unfair not that someone is willing to spend extra money on a keyboard as you incorrectly surmise, but rather that using software that would allow me to perform the same function as a G15 on my regular keyboard is explicitly forbidden.

also i can suggest more macro's unless you already have them
CTRL+R = reload CTRL+spacebar = stop shop CTRL+F11 = scanner alt+tab = switch clients, if you dont minimize the other one this means one click instant switch between clients, pwn

I will tell you that G15 and similar utilities that allow you to combine key presses are allowed. The GM's and Dev's have posted statements on the forums stating that.
If you really want to know for sure and not go for the hear-say then file a petition and ask a GM directly.
Macro's that automate complete actions are illegal. Combine keystrokes are not a problem.

I do kinda agree with you on this, I'm a G15 user and would not stop using it. However just cuz my keyboard has software and hardware to do it "inhouse" why can't others install software that can do it on there normal keyboards. ----

how many key strokes are you allowed to record?
1 2 4 8 16 . . . . 16384.
1. pressing f1 to f8 is = 8 key strokes. 2. undock, warp to belt, lock, mine, dock at station = 5 mouse clicks.
now all i need is homer simpsons noding bird and im set to mine for ever. but hey as its g15 keyboard its allowed \o/ (erm does the g15 record mouse clicks too)

You need to record it in the profiler with 'record delay between keypresses' on for EVE to register the ctrl and alt keys.
No, it can't record mouse actions.

Edited by: MITSUK0 on 22/09/2007 21:55:25 lol they cannot say "bindable keyboards/keypads are illegal" because they cannot enforce it.
How do CCP tell if I am just hot on my keystrokes or if I am using a bind to activate guns all at the same time?
Edit: Also pretty much all pvp games have people using keystroke macro's, it is just the way pc gaming has evolved. Yes it gives you an edge, no it is not all that extreme, if you mapped out a normal keyboard well you could achieve a similar effect (especially in eve which is not very twitch/combo heavy)

Games (eve included) have graphical options, allowing someone with a sub par machine to play without any real difficulty. Thankfully, my rig isn't all that far behind the norm. Before I updated, I was running Eve relatively happily on a Radeon 9600 SE. Ergo your troll... err... point is moot.

I suppose the difference is you modified or added something to it yourself but it's built into the G15.There are also several gaming mice which have this ability afaik.
Macros for mining are bad because you don't have to be at your comp to make Isk.Using a G15 to activate your mods in a combat situation is an entirely different kettle of fish.
I'm 100% certain that if CCP somehow found out someone had macroed their G15 to mine all day they would ban them in a second.

My mid and low slot G keys work just fine, use the main profiler as stated by someone else. I'd like to clear up a couple of points though:
Firstly, you do not need to record the timings between keypresses, in fact I think this would defeat the objective, they are meant to be pressed instantaneously!
Secondly, you can record mouse movements/clicks with the G15, but not out of the box. I have seen forums threads (on G15 forums) to use these in games like battlefield 2/2142. However, it is my opinion that, in Eve, this would be moving beyond "handy shortcuts" and into the realms of "dirty cheatin' macros", so just don't do it!

They are not. If all you are doing is key binding then you are fine.
In case you haven't noticed, you can't automate anything to earn ISK just with key binding. About all you can do it cut back on RSI.
If you don't believe those who have posted here telling you that CCP does not class key binding as a macro, then file a quick petition to check for yourself. Like what happened for La Vittoria, you will probably get a quick copy and paste reply saying that key binding is fine, just don't try automating anything more complexe.

i believe it was stated before, but it is quite simple.
a macro user can hit one key, walk away for 12 hours and come back with more money.
the key binder hits one key. fires weapons until rat is popped. press one key again. rinse repeat as necessary. this forces the user to be at the desk, although not as attentive.

The alt key is problematic because of its built-in function in EVE of un-hiding all tactical icons on the screen, in-space. This causes some client lag and your G15 macro doesn't work properly.
One simple solution is to re-map the mid-slot shortcuts to not include Alt, and then map these new shortcuts to your G15 keys. -- ŽMe, Žnow. Quote me and you're sued! |

Hello everyone,
Although Gamemasters don't usually post on the forums, I felt it necessary to post here and prevent any misunderstandings. We allow the use of a G15 or similar keyboard operated macro, you press a key and all your guns activate at the intervals you set. That usage is fine, macro clients that allow the user to operate a client without being at the keyboard is not (ie a macro that does everything for you, without you doing anything regardless of where you are).
Hopefully that is end of the discussion of whether G15s are allowed or not, they are allowed. |

If you arent using your macro to obtain isk or items in an unfair manner then you are doing fine.

I cant say I read the thread, but to fix the problem the OP was having you need to:
Open the Keyboard Profiler Settings > Profiler... at the bottom of that window check "Record delays during quick macro creation"
and that'll fix the problem. Just make sure that you do the alt keys like "Alt down, F1 down, F1 up...F8 Down, F8 Up, Alt up" and the same for any ctrl ones you have.

Thanks, I'll try that. Though I have one more question, if I use the profiler to create key binding macros, how do I get them to work? I've tried and when I press them ingame, they do nothing. Thus why I've been using quick macros as those have been working so far.
Is there a way to tell the G15 to use a profile rather then quick macros?

Anyways, what I do is have G6 set to activate all my hi slots. If I want all mids, I press Alt+G6. Saves tying up another key when there's no need to.
IIRC, you can't set Alt+, Ctrl+, or Shift + as bound keys using the MR.

well said.
at most egoshoters all players with highend 800$ videocards (or realy crazy one with two of em) have hugh benefits over normal players with 200$ to 250$ cards. petition: forbit all highend cards and do not alow to combine two cards! (one 8800 gts == 20 * G15 keyboard. even one 7600 gt == 2 * G15 keyboard. one widescreen 22'' TFT == 5 * G15 boards)
people with to much money buy 2, 3 or 40 accounts with highend LANs (see multiboxe gaming) and do thinks where other need to find groups for. petition: forbit multi-acc, multi-box gaming! (many of you will cry loudly with all the alts)
where do you benefit more from? - a G15 with some keys assigned to one key - two acc where one is a Commandship with 3+ commandmoduls sitting somewhere at a save spot - third acc with a Logistic ship that remotrepairs you
well, close your second and third accs for 90 days and buy a G15 if you belive it gave you more of an advantage ;).

Another Idiot that can not play the game as it was made and that need Macro's to do any thing! I hope you get pop and podded fast !

Why should people with arthritic conditions and RSI be forced to 'play the game as it was'? If the game was meant for you to activate F1-F8 to activate all the high slots, whether it took one key press or eight, its still all the same thing.
Also, aren't keyboards, mice etc a 'shortcut' for entering data into a computer? BAN EVERYONE!
I think what people here have is a problem in distinguishing between a macro and a bot.
