I've recently got into exploration and now am at a stage where I can next train the path for either hacking or archaeology. Which is better "value" in terms of being able to complete the sites and return on my time invested.
Thanks

Electronic Upgrades V, a requirement for Hacking, is also a requirement for Covert Ops frigates. RADAR sites only have hacking, while Magnetometric have both salvaging and archeology. Though it is debatable that Magnetometric sites can give more ISK.
Personally, I would train Hacking first, then Archeology. After getting them to level one, I trained them to level four so I didn't miss out on any loot.

Thanks for the reply. Hadn't considered Elec Upgrades V was needed for Cov Ops so seems like a good plan.
Thanks again

both radar/mag sites are valuable if you can get a lvl 4 site which might net you around 400-500m

I know precisely nothing about hacking/archaeology and all that sort of thing, i know and have done a bit of exploration, thats easy enough but in regards to say a hacking site, is it something i can just go into in my covops if i fit a code breaker wossy?

I don't know either, never bothered probing a hacking site down because I can't get to the loot! I've heard that there are rats to kill off but you need to have hacking equipment on your combat ship because the site will despawn taking the loot with it once the NPCs are dead so no warp out, change ship. Like I said, all hearsay though...

If you haven't already trained Electronics Upgrades V for Covert Ops I recommend training Archaeology first for two reason.
First of all, it requires Survey V, a rank 1 skill, instead of Electronics Upgrades V, a rank 2 skill, so you can have it in half the time.
Secondly, once you have Archaeology you'll be able to make full use of Magnetometric sites. No point spending all the time probing out a site just to have to leave most of the good stuff behind.
I highly recommend training hacking as well though, especially since you need Electronics Upgrades for Covert Ops anyways.

This is partially true. As far as I know the despawn trigger on hacking sites is hacking the first can. So you can fly in, kill all the NPCs and then go change ships. However, failing to access a can may cause more NPCs to spawn. If you warp out at that point to change ships, the site will despawn. Also, since despawning is still horribly bugged, you usually don't want to risk warping out at any point. That's why it is best to bring a Codebreaker on your combat ship.

Even the easiest sites I've found I wouldn't try to do in a covops. Maybe the sites in hisec can be that easy, I don't know.
People go at the problem a few different ways solo. They may track down the site with a covops or astrometrics frig and then bring in a combat ship to clear the site. Or they use one ship with the slots / tank / drones to do it all. Or they split up the functions between alts; and it's got to be said that Exploration has to be one of the most alt-friendly activities in the game.
Other people work in teams to accomplish the same thing, especially in 0.0.

I keep a standard missle launcher on my cheetah for high sec sites. I can normally kite the frigs/destroyers and kill them while keeping out of range. --------------- This sig has been censored in fear of recieving the ban hammer... |
