Hopefully play.com do what they do sometimes and i ge halo 3 tomorrow instead of tuesday! mauahahahahahahaah prob not though, gunna be good, ive got a job interview on tuesday though so it might conflict.. lol

Like playing a foot piano I find it funny and ridiculous.
You can never be a virtuoso of FPSs with Halo. The massive amounts of effort and skill on the thumbsticks you need to do the simplest manuevers on a pee cee eff pee ess is a laugh. Ever seen a flick shot? Oh, nm, no you haven't. I love it when silly Halo veterans are wide-eyed when they see me on the computer.
I'll admit to dual thumbsticks being nearly as good when I see someone use them over a mouse/keyboard in a decent tournament.

Halo 3 seems to be decent, but not really much more. From the Gamespot review i can't really see anything worth rambling about - The graphics are at the standard for today's games (although they do look slightly less good than say, Gears of War), the story is a marketing ply after the success of the first Halo (who didn't see it coming), and the gameplay is almost a 1 on 1 copy of the previous games, as far as i can tell.
I think i can best put it this way: Going from Halo 1 to Halo 2/3 is like going from Unreal 1 to Unreal 2. The graphics look a lot better and you get a couple more functions, but underneath the game has exactly the same premise. And let me say it again: Halo 3 doesn't look to be a bad game, i just think that it didn't deserve the hype (and the way too high Gamespot score).
When i look the other way i can see stuff coming like Crysis and the Orange Box. I can't comment on Crysis directly (hint), but i would like to say this about it: It's so subtle that you wonder why the hell it keeps you going. It's that good, and that much improved from Far Cry.
Then there's also Gears of War for the PC, and Unreal Tournament 3.
In other words: Halo 3 is nice, but it's competition is harsh. Most people who buy Halo 3 will be the ones that have barely played any shooters at all and/or only have a console to play games on - And since Halo (3) is just about the only decent console shooter out there, well... No wonder sales are so high.

I pre-ordered the legendary edition and will be camping out tonight and playing once I get home until I pass out. Halo 1 was a huge part of my high school years and I love the franchise to death. I defiantly liked it a lot more when you could go to LAN parties and chill with cool people and laugh and yell and get drunk and buzzed off caffeine and other substances and eat food than now when you play online with all the 2 year olds crying and whining and smack-talking.
And OT comparing CS to Halo is like comparing Alien(s) or Starship Troopers to Saving Private Ryan or Band of Brothers. Despite being FPS they're in completely different genres.

Yeah, you might remember a while back that Bungie had a movie deal going with Peter Jackson and WETA digital along with Fox I belive, or maybe Universal. Anyways, the distributer demanded a rewrite of the contract at the last minute and when Microsoft refused they backed out. However some of the digital effects and props had already been created. Bungie decided to give the go ahead for WETA and Neil Blomcamp to put together these shorts to help Halo3 advertising, but also to garner interest for a movie from other distributers.
Bungie works on the game, not Peter Jackson or Neil Blomcamp. It's like people here that ***** that the GMs work too much on petitions and not enough on game development. That's simply not their job and not what they're trained for. Let the Devs develop the game.

what is the problem? make the movie already..... slightly better actors, and slightly better effects would make this truly epic. As a snippet and work in progress I find the halo shorts to be ******* awesome!

The complete lack of narrative, drama, characters, and plot might be in the way. There's a reason the industry's best couldn't put together a worthwhile script you know?

Yes i've read the books.
Bought the first one on a drunken whim, and was surprised when it turned up (ordered online), then one day i thought sod it, ill read it. I was quite shocked at how good it was, heartily recommended IF you like the halo series.
Book 2 is basically halo the game in book form (bit meh..), 3rd is not bad, but its the first book that shines, giving a very detailed account of the birth of the spartan program. Yeah is schlocky sci-fi, but i was always a sucker for those type's of books.

BAHAHAHA Suckers, i love living next to redmond!!!! I kinda dislike its popularity tho. Really i hate all the TV spots, the specials, its all interesting and all. But it kinda ****es me off, i mean what the hell does the local news have to do with my FPS  why cant they put more press on the PC boys, get eve some spot time.

Picked my Xbox (special edition) up at about 11am today, and Halo3 with it. Started playing as soon as i got home at about 11:20, finished it about 10minutes ago at 19:15. Including bathroom breaks and stuff, that puts total length at somewhere between 7 and 8 hours. I'd hesitently call myself an average gamer aswell, so its pretty short. Which kinda sucks, but other than that its pretty good all told.
No Bioshock or HL2 though tbfh.
Best bit is taking on two scarabs at once, was giggling like a little girl all through that section. Awesome fun.
I would complain about about it not being worth thirty quid or whatever it was, but that said most of the Halo fun is in the multiplayer.

I never even went past the first level in Halo 2 Campaign.
Halo 3 campaign is much better and far more strategic, and success does come down to bringing or picking up the right weapons for the job at hand, and combo use of weapons. The Halo 3 campaign will be far betetr off because 4 players can do it co-op now.

I'm sorry to say, but the Halo games never brought anything really new to the scene. Neither storyline, graphics or immersion. I own both Halo and Halo 2 and they are great console games, but it does not really compare to anything we PC owners have been used to for several years.
Halo, when first released on the PC was just very... Generic. Yet good when it came to console gamng.
Thats my opinion anyway.

Good that console owners have something to jump about again :) me? I still havent made up any good excuse for myself to buy a console.
Halo is good on consoles but pretty bland on PC (mostly because it comes years later) and that's why you see all those PC users go "Halo? pfeh!"
Played the first one, never got around the second (Vista requirement and smashing PC reviews). But I scrolled through the story and it was quite okay. Found a good summary here
Now waiting for similar recap on H3 and then I'll be satisfied :)
If anyone finds a good summary on H3 story then I would be delighted to have it.
