Question, has it been explained how Drones are going to recharge their shields with some of the coming changes?

All that has been confirmed is that the instant shield recharge in the drone bay won't work anymore.
Whether this means no shield recharge in the bay at all or just the normal shield recharge rate is still open. Keep an eye on the dev blogs and singularity.

I'm a drone user allright and I am biased - but for me it's always been the most natural thing to see drones recharge shields (only a fraction of their host shield power) instantly.
I guess micromanagement is becoming a tiny bit obsolete then ;-) overpowered aspects getting nerfbats ftw ;-)

Or they still have an accelerated recharge in the bays, but not instant.
In my point of view, this in combination of the other dronechanges tenfolds the micromanagement. But perhaps thats just me.

Nothing has been said yet and no date has been set for when the changes will be on test afaik.
I wouldn't worry about it too much because according to the Rev3 Dev Blog all Drone ships will be getting bigger drone bays anyway so,if I understand it right, you will already have Drones with fully charged shields in the bay.
It doesn't sound like a Nerf or a fix to me. |

Except that it is a really distinct nerf to one ship - good-bye Dominix. Once the Megathron can carry extra heavies, will there be many Domis used as more than a stepping stone to other ships?

perhaps you can fit a remote shield or armour repper and fix them up as they get shot ^^
Ok if you fly a battleship locking a drone might take a while...:S

Edited by: Tsin''Valha on 24/09/2007 06:21:51 bandwidth sounds cool and very appropriate. losing the "insta-heal" to shields -even better. Nothing sucks worse that starting to take down someones drones and they suddenly suck them in and spit them back out 5 seconds later with full shields and having to relock the nasty little sobs all over again. In fact, it's pretty damn annoying to have the instant recall and redeploy instead of it taking 15 seconds for the drone to settle in the bay before being relaunched.
It takes 10 seconds to reload the damn guns, so why not take 10-15s before drones can be spit back out. Even with the uber shields trick removed, people will just pull in and spit them out to screw people locking the drones and picking them off.
-as for megathron, it's a massive gun platform, why should it have the bandwidth for heavy drones like the dominix?

Because it carries 125m3 now, can theoretically use them as repairbots, and in actuality is the 3rd largest BS drone bay (iirc, Typhoon has 175). Actually, the relationship between the Dominix/Mega and Vexor/Thorax are nearly the same: both can field 5 drones of a given size (med for cruisers and hvy for bs), both get gun bonuses, and the drone ship gets a drone bonus. The difference lies in the PG - with a Vexor, I can fit guns and have somewhat of a remaining fitting at least comparable to that of the 'rax. With the Domi vs. the Megathron, not so much. having 8000 pg less hurts quite a bit, and is much more of a proportional difference than the cruisers.
However, I'm sure the differences are needed to maintain balance. The drone changes will nonetheless suck for the Dominix once other ships can start fielding alternate drones. (and I'm not even gonna start about the nerfs to the smaller ships - thats for a different thread)

Thats actually all part of the larger question , what exactly will drones be like in the near future and what will the various ships be able to launch?
Will a BS with a current hanger of 125 or greater be able to launch a full set of heavies when the go to bandiwith?
Will the only Ship smaller then a BS be an Ishtar that can launch 5 heavy drones and of the smaller ships what will they be allowed? Frigates nothing larger then a full set of lights, cruisers and BC nothing larger then a full set of mediums? How long will it take to recharge drone shields? Over all it looks like a heavy possible nerf to drones.

Well I bold it out for you:

The Megathron is a gunboat, not a drone boat, so no bigger drone bay.

t2 drones are still fairly expensive, it will be a huge nerf to the wallet of anyone stupid enough to use a ship that relies on drones for its DPS.
