Think it's gonna work? Or should you wait for a BS before going Level 3?

Yes, yes it will. Lvl 3's are designed for bc's, the drake is probably the most powerful bc out there, so kick back and enjoy. This of course assumes you have the skills to fly a drake well, not just the bare minimum.

What would you consider the skills needed to fly a drake well? I've been focusing on increasing my missile range (speed and flight time), + damage and explosion radius on missiles, and whatever I've needed to improve shield tanking. Im outfitted with 6 arabalest assault launchers for L2 missions (2 salvagers). Going to upgrade to heavies for L3.

That I'm far from knowledgeable in sorry. I've skipped caldari ships completely and gone straight to a raven, so I'm not sure exactly which passive tank skills to train, but go into the ships and modules section and you should see several cookie-cutter loadouts, basic answer is train the skills you need to equip that setup to 3-4 at least :)

I would say train the skills needed to fit T2 Large Shield Extenders, T2 Passive resist mods & T2 BCUs. Once fitted, a drake will walk through any L3 without trouble.

Can you give me the name of the type of passive resist mods you're talking about? I have an invulenerability device I just trained for, but it appears to be active as it uses 40 energy per activation.

Linkage
The drake is a passive shield tanker, you'll find most of the advice you need on how to outfit it on this thread, you have to use both low and medium slots, meaning it isn't a heavy dps ship, but it can take the same beating as a battleship, if not more.

Drakes are great ships because they take so damn long to kill. In PVP, where the goal is to reduce DPS as fast as possible, Drakes usually don't get called primary first. In missions, mid-to-high resists and a huge amount of shield points are a drake's best friend.
The Brutix/Myrmidon is a better gank setup, but the Drake is a tough nut to *****. Now Recruiting. Click on the sig for details!

For a long time, I ran L4's with a Drake. My skills were pretty much average, so I can tell you those folks who may swear you need T2 fittings are not correct, they are nice to have, but you can learn them while you run L3s as you desire.
Use heavies and when you can, install some shield purge rigs and you will note a huge difference. The Drake is a great tank, though its dps is a problem for L4s. Lose the salvagers and get a dedicated salvage ship (normally a destroyer). The Drake is designed for 7 launchers - use them (heavies). Put a drone link augmentor in the extra high slot to let your drones go out a bit further...they help. Look on the forums for Drake fits and select the one you like.
Very seldom did I need to warp out of a L4 because I was taking too much damage. It was more a question of being able to kill BS...I can tank a dozen serpentis BSs, it just takes a long time to kill them.

Concentrate on skills that will help your shield tanking. (Note: The battlecruiser skill gives the drake an extra 5% resists per level.)
Shield Operations has to be at 4 (preferably 5) as it boosts your recharge rate.
If you active tank (use shield boosters) get ôShield Compensationö to 4 to save cap.
Shield Management should also be at 4 because it gives you 5% more shields. (5 would be better, but at rank 3, there are better uses for your skillpoints now.) Getting to 5 in this skill will let you use the Tech II Shield Boost Amplifier, which is nice if you active tank.
Get ôTactical Shield Manipulationö to 4 so you can fit Tech II hardeners. This is critical as the extra resists make all the difference in the world. Make sure you tailor your hardeners to the enemy you are fighting. Use an Invulnerability Field II or two(maybe 3) if you are facing an enemy that does all damage types.
Get ôHull Upgradesö to 4 so you can fit a Damage Control II module.
You need ôEnergy Grid Upgradesö to 4 if you want to passive tank with shield power relays. This is also necessary for the very useful Power Diagnostic System II
ôShield Upgradesö at 4 gives you Large Shield Extenders II which are important for passive tanks.
The reason for all the shield skills is that, in missions, if you can sustain your tank, you will win. If you canÆt sustain your tank, you will have to warp out repeatedly and may lose your ship.
Once you get your shield skills up start concentrating on more damage.
Weapon Upgrades at 4 will let you fit several Ballistic Control System IIs which will really improve your damage. This is also a key fitting skill that reduces the CPU needs of your launchers/guns. Getting it to 5 also opens up Advanced Weapons Upgrade which is another important skill that reduces the powergrid requirements of weapons by 2% per level.
Other than this thereÆre the missile skills you already know about, targeting skills, fitting skills, and drone skills. (Even the Drake can benefit from drones, but they are a low priority.)
That should keep you busy for a while. The Drake is a very good ship for level 3 missions. Outside of command ships, it may be the best level 3 mission runner out there. Good luck.
