so, i'm moving to my new offices in low sec, after spending a succesful week out there, mixing missioning with popping a few careless stragglers. much more fun than empire.
only problem being, things don't sell well out there of course. So, i decide to go sell all of my accumulated salvage, and also a fair chunk of the nicer loot i cant use that i've dragged off a few rats and also some struggling pods ;p
anyway, when i add it all up there's probably 100 mil worth of salvage, plus maybe 25 mil of mods and other miscellanious loot, and a pile of mega, noxc, iso and zyd. Not bad, i'm liking this. i can smell my next ship with a lovely fit, and that means even more profit =)
Anyway, looking at my ships, i have a few to choose from. the hauler is out, it's too slow and made out of tinfoil and warps like it's got no engines. Destroyer temps me, its speedy, can hold all the loot (just) and it isn't going to be expected to be carrying much i can imagine. camoflague looks a tempting ideal. then of course, i realise that one volley of decent missiles will pop it like a balloon, and is it really worth trusting close to 150 million of loot on a ship one person can gank in just about anything? nope...
mining vessels are out for the same reason as the hauler. slow and papery. less likely to be scanned, but again, is it really worth taking a chance on?
In the end i settle on a tanked up to hell battlecruiser with MWD and stabs fitted. It still doesnt cost a fifth of the value, and i'd prefer to shift it in a battleship, but hey, don't have one handy (yet). So, now that the ship is picked i set out my strategy. going to have to cross several low sec regions to start with. Not lookiong forwards to this at all. especially as one is a main ganking area for a fairly small but active corp of pirates, all flashy red and out for blood. I got stuck in the middle of them fighing against a half dozen carriers the other day and that wasnt fun ;p Definetly didn't want that to happen again. sure i got out last time, but i was carrying two toothpicks and some rubbish ammo, bit different.
decided in the end to make 5 low sec jumps instead of two, to avoid the chance of running into a gate camp or so. this worked. I reached empire and let out a big sigh of relief. Of course, then i remembered all the frieghter ganking threads and realised empire is not safe, not if one is heading for a big trade hub. (not jita thanksfully, but rens is no small potato, and there could well be people lurking around looking for the oppertunity to gankarise me and steal my sweet sweet pile of circuits and trit bars ;p)
Begin the journey, not on autopilot, for i am not that stupid ;p do the first bunch of jumps without too much trouble. Now, to be honest i have trouble at this stage remembering what class every ship in the game is without clicking on them for details ;p (what can i say, only been playing a couple of months) so when i hit Teonusude i am not unduly worried when there's a few ships by the gate. One bumps me, but hey, it could be an accident, after all, i'm not showing any target lock. Two other ships move in, a drake and a rupture. i'm not entirely aware of the capabilities of the drake, as i only really know minnie ships. I've also never seen anyone be concorded but i hear it can take a while for them to show up in low sec systems (at this point i'm wishing i was paying more attention to the sec of such a crowded system =( )
Paranoia is racing through my veins as the little bugger, a frigate or something, bumps me out of warp again. looking less and less like an accident, and i'm not so sure i can outlast all three if they decide to open up on me. It's then i hit the mwd and manage to accelerate away from the little bugger just as he is coming in for another bump. Still no lock, but i just keep on with the mwd until my cap is running low, then spin into warp to the most aligned object, which is a planet or some such. Drop out of warp and continue

on my merry way, and make it to rens eventually. so i didn't get ganked and may not have been going to get ganked, but i sure as hell would have been cheesed to get ganked carrying all that money. from now on, i think i'll do it in a few less trips, even if it takes longer. safer on the heart =(

Edited by: Sebesto on 24/09/2007 15:46:10 Just a word of advice, a well fitted Drake can tank sentry fire forever and a day.
The Rupture can handle the fire from sentries for short amounts of time. If they were to attack you, target the Rupture first if you can't get away. Don't use MWD while webbed, missiles will love you to death... Literally.
And if you choose to defend yourself at a gate, remember that you cannot jump after destroying/attacking someone for thirty seconds. And that thirty seconds is a long time.

Yeah forgot to mention that as well. Concord only shows up in 0.5 to 1.0 space. 0.4 to 0.1 you only get 2 sentry guns at stations/gates.

Good thinking at least - remember, any gank you walk away from with your ship intact is a good one.

One thing that I would have done differently is to separate the high value low volume items from the low value high volume items. 100 mil in salvage will fit in a stabbed up frig. The rest I would do as you did, in a stabbed up cruiser.
The most important aspect to running logistics in hostile territory is when you do it, not how. If you are only doing it once a month or so do it during a weekday close to DT. Don't try it on a weekend with 35K players online.

Well she did say she reached 'empire' and considering she was mentioning low sec before, I think 'empire' refers to highsec in this case. Though technically that isn't correct of course.

I think no locks = passive targeters.
And yeah you get those guys at every trade hub.

She was in Teonusude. It's a 0.6 system, about 5 hi sec jumps out from Rens.

You want to move valuables in low sec, in a fairly low SP char, use a nanoed stabber. You can align and warp fast and has pretty good cargo. Stabs won't save you if your ship is big and may be bumped.
If brute force doesn't solve your problem... you are not using enough |

mammoth - low slots: 3x inertia stab 1x nanofiber ? should align for warp in about 6-7 seconds. they ll have a hard time catching you.

Insurance pays for the ship, the modules are usually just tech 1. And they choose a target that will result in more profit than loss.

6-7 sec - ummmn I can lock a mammoth in about oh 3-4 sec if not faster - so that mammoth would be locked - scrammed and taking damage in the 3-4 sec period you would still take to warp ---------- www.mototsume.ca It's just a game........Or is it?

sure, it is no perfect 100% get away plan and ideally you d fly in a transport not and indy but who has the time to train for that ;) it is definately better than going full cargo expanded though :)

Edited by: WilliamH Bonney on 25/09/2007 19:36:41 My favorite "hauling" ship is the Exequror. Put on a bit of shield tank, an MWD, 1 inertia stab, and 2 WCS's, and they are very hard to catch. Sure, and interceptor might catch up to you, but they'll die before you from the gate guns. And if they are in anything bigger then a cruiser, well, you'll have no hard time outrunning them before they can actually pop you.
