I take it you mean when you mine at a belt where you are out of the grid where NPCs can't spawn. Just because you are exploiting a flaw in the system by unfairly bypassing NPC spawns and other players in some cases.

If that is what he means by "bubble mining" then I thought CCP corrected this issue and there are no longer 'hidden' belts to exploit. Maybe some are still around...dunno but certainly far fewer than once existed.

Without knowing what bubble mining is, the immediate answer to "Why do you get banned for..." anything at all, is "Because CCP decided not to allow it." They may have a sound sensible reason for not allowing it because it would severely unbalance the game; they may ban it simply because their CEO had a stinking hangover when the subject came up. Either way, it's banned because it's banned.

I read somewhere that the grid bug mining thing was resolved BUT they left some hidden areas deliberately to allow people, that looked long and hard enough, the ability to mine without risk. But they also mentioned something about the NPC rats will maybe show up in these areas also.
Or something. Maybe they meant in the future it would be like this? Dunno. Read something though.

pfft, Hidden roids are everywhere, and not hard to find. Who wants to buy the location of mercoxit, no NPCs, no players, only 12 jumps to refinery. _________________________________________________________

Other than gross profanity and offensive behaviour, or hacking into the EVE server, I doubt there's any disallowed behaviour that would get you banned straight off the bat. They tend to come round and say "Oi, don't do that" first.
As a general rule - if you're doing something which would appear to be outside the intended gameplay, eg. mining in deep space 0.0 systems and not seeing any pirates for hours on end, or blowing people up in Yulai with no CONCORD response, then it's most likely a bug and/or an oversight, which you should report. If you found a genuine non-pirate-infested belt, or if CONCORD are on strike for some reason, the GMs will let you know that you're in the clear; otherwise, playing to the spirit of the game rather than the letter of the law keeps you safe.

Personally, i think that these "bubble belts" add a little more exploration to the game. However, they should be extremely rare, and the minerals in them should take 4 times as long to respawn, if at all, and they should be located only in places 15+ jumps away from a refinery. ----------------------------------- about:blank |

Umm the grid thing isnt fixed mind you they are really hard to find and generally not worth your time (i found 1 today with 7 veldspar roids 4 jumps from station) anywho it is really easy to find but still a waste of time. and i mine in a system that has bistot and ark 4 jumps from a station and the npc's will leave me alone for hours on end. |

....errr, okay.
Is bistot/arkonor mining supposed to be that simple and low-risk? Or is something not working properly?
If that were me, I'd file a bug report just to find out.

Edited by: Kovak on 17/02/2004 08:12:20 I always thought grid stuff was a fairly nice feature :( If its not I'd really really like to know why a great deal of hidden stuff that ccp put in originally uses grids to hide itself. Especially recently alot wrecks have appeared out in 0.0 and almost all of them are in different grids from their anchor object (usually belts).
Perhaps if ccp added some real hidden belts, belts stuck in the middle of no where which are not listed in the system or warpable in the scanner. Would be quite cool and profitable for explorers to spend some time trying to get to them.
Just a thought.

This reminds me of the old Transport Tycoon Deluxe version where you could mine bubbles, transport it to a factory and get soda for it.

Bubble mining is banned for pretty much the same reason as bubble ganking - you're using a bug to completely avoid the consequences for your actions. Something strange is certainly still going on though - in the last few days megacyte prices have dropped from 12Kish to roughly 8Kish/unit. Granted the prices needed to fall to get more in line with insurance costs, but such a sharp fall has to be highly suspicious.
