Firstly this question could probably also go in a few other forums; general discussion( ), newbie FAQ ( ), COAD ( )etc, but it's primarily a trading question and there's more chance of a considered response in market discussion than elsewhere (go you!). So hope folk don't get upset at me asking.
I want to spice my trading life up a bit, by wandering into the badlands to ply my trade, i'd like to 'RP' more of a frontier peddler of whatever goods i can find, and think i'd enjoy doing so. But before venturing out there's one monolithic obstacle sitting in my path like a combine-harvester on a freeway (or a JCB on a motorway if you're British). That being; "If i can't dock, i can't trade"
I've seen many tasty opportunities that i'd like to get my oily grubby little hands on, but to travel the known universe and upon arrival be greeted with "LoL newb, denied roflz!" by the incumbent docking authority, would be a bit of a kick to my morale's soft and tender place. Is such trading limited to only those within the resident 'super alliances', and even for these people only within their own borders?
Can anyone here offer advice for an eager rookie peddler of shiny baubles, in how you go about gaining docking rights (looking on station info, then the info of the alliance owning the station... i don't see any information on how to 'make friends' with them). Are the alliances generally resistant to solo traders basically competing with their own members, or are they more sensible and see that an outside influx of items is good for their economy? And lastly are there facets of the life i wish to lead that i seem to have completely overlooked, that i should be aware of.
Regardless, thanks for reading my ramble.

Edited by: Ione Hunt on 25/09/2007 16:21:55 I started of trading with this char in a lot of 0.0 regions. In all that time, only 1 (ONE) alliance, POS, allowed me to dock at their stations...the others were all to paranoid. POS ftw! (I wasn't in OB at the time ofc)
Your only real chance to trade in 0.0 is at NPC stations. Find out where good-grade NPC agents are located in 0.0, find out what ships people fly around there...and then deliver to those stations. Be aware that most people prefer shooting you, even if all you want is to boost the local market.

You don't need docking rights to be able to buy and sell in 0.0 stations.
You only need it if you want to pick up or drop off goods there.
I make a fortune expoiting the stupidity of my enemies putting up "good prices" on the market in 0.0 because they think their enemies can't or wont buy them.
Go ahead and trade your socks off. Nothing is stopping you... execept perhaps remote trade skills.

1.) Look up pirate factions. (Gurista, Mordus, etc)
2.) Find their 0.0 stations.
3.) Filter the ones that have the most active pilots at peak times.
4.) Fly to said station and pull some market data.
5.) Assemble your trading plan and begin working your station of choice.
6.) ???
7.) Profit.

Providing your corp/alliance has not shot at CVA or IAC, you'll be able to dock in their stations in Providence and Catch.

Can anybody in IAC confirm this. The last I heard IAC was NBSI for the duration to the BoB war but their stations where to remain public access (so as not to completely strand their former users stuff). Has this changed?

Most alliances have traders within their ranks. If you establish some contacts and talk things through, you may be able to do some real underground trading. You know, rendevous in the middle of nowhere type stuff.
Itd take a lot of trust of course, to use someone else's cyno (unless you timesinked yourself and used your own).
I know I'd happily set up an unarmed small pos with a hangar and cyno you to it for trading. Although I lack capital atm, so no good =(

@ the "you can dock anywhere in 0.0 stations"'ers, I think he means Player-owned stations, not NPC stations. While you could maintain a foothold in NPC stations, more lucrative options would lie in the deep player-owned stations.

I once bought all of RA's stront in 995 being sold for like 800 a unit and sold it back to them at 6k. All 18,000 units. Made me a happy camper

I believe we're back to NRDS (except in obvious areas, like BoB space), mostly because of wartime standings issues. That being said, returning fire is perfectly kosher.

I have docking rights to a large number of 0.0 stations that are quite difficult to obtain docking rights to. I also have access to carriers making deliveries to some of these stations. Many of these stations have a VERY high demand for ships and modules. Send me an evemail, we can talk about a partnership.

I would think that you could negotiate access with the alliances for access. Especially if you were to set up a trading corp with a small number of members and were not assiciated with any other alliances.
I can think of a few PVP alliances that live in areas that have SUCKY markets.
