I noticed that to extend my trial account cost $19.95US for 30 days of game play. It looks like that's the monthly cost, then, but it doesn't explicitly say that it is. This brings up a couple questions:
1. I read a 2003 review of the game before getting the trial. It was a good review, but it said the price was $13.00 a month. How often does the subscription price go up? I've played MMOs in the past where the sub price has remained static. I don't know if I want to get into one where, once you're hooked, you see sub prices going up regularly. For those who have been around since more or less the beginning, how often have they raised the sub price?
2. If the sub price is $19.95US per month, my initial reaction is that this is more than I really want to pay for a game, and it seems to be about 5 bucks over the market rate for most MMOs. Going back to point 1, has EVE generally been above the market in terms of cost? I would ask if it is worth it, but of course everyone here subscribes so the answer will be 'yes.' :)
Thanks for the input.

Subscription is $15 a month if you pay monthly, if you pay for a whole year at once it breaks down to $13 a month. -=^=-

No that is the cost of buying the game. It comes with 30 days of playtime. After that, it will be $14.95/Month.

Ok, thanks Billy. That wasn't clear from the $19.95 extension fee. I appreciate the info.
I must say, I'm enjoying this game more than any MMO I've played in a long time, and although I'm relatively new to MMOs I've played WoW, EQ2, DDO, LOTRO, and Vanguard. I like the fact that this is totally different. The others all seems like clones of each other.

Perfect choice there Vesuvio.
Also you could upgrade your acct with a GTC and iirc get the full 30days the GTC would offer. GTC's tend to be pretty cheap ($15 or so?) -------

You also wont have to pay 20 bucks every time an expansion comes out because your sub fee is all you pay, none of that "You want this, but ohwait thats in the expansion only!" here

Glad to hear it. Sounds like a good company behind this game, from everything I've seen and read.

Or you could use a GTC to activate, then it only costs you 14.99 USD. You know, instead of 19.99 USD, or worse, 19.99 EUR _

I don't mind the $19.95US activation fee. That's cheap for buying the game. Just checking that it wasn't the monthly fee as well. But yes, 19.95EUR would be bad.

I read somewhere that if you extend with a GTC they take off some days of the game time (10 days, iirc) so it works out as the same cost as extending the account normally. ---------------------------

Welcome to EVE Online. Enjoy your gaming, and do remember, EVE is harsh, and for good reason.
Keep that in mind in everything you do in EVE, and you'll find a certain level of fun that may go deeper than just counter-strike/WoWgasms. -

Thanks for the welcome Carnage and Kazuma.
One thing I'm looking forward to is a rather harsh game, where death actually has consequences you want to avoid. One of the worst thing about WoW, in my view, is that death is meaningless. There are no real stakes in the game. Vanguard did a better job at implementing death penalties, but it's still too wow-like for me, and the low server pops didn't help either.
EVE is going to be cool :)

Well, if you're really reckless/careless, you might find yourself losing ALMOST EVERYTHING you have except your skillpoints (most of them anyway) in a single blow
You'll probably love the game. Like the rest of the bunch here _

Last time I checked it worked out at about $71 for 6 months, but GTCs are now my friend.

Currently the cheapest way to renew subscription is to buy a GTC from some place which uses dollars for payment. 8,5 euros for 30 days ain't bad -

No idea where you fetch your exchange rates from, but 15 USD is around 10.5 EUR - 11 EUR. _

30 day GTCs are $14.99, 90 day $38.99 from Shattered Crystal
edit. that's 10.91 and 28.47 Euros respectively. at least that's what it says on the page.

This is correct, as I recently purchased some 90 day ones.
