I thought I had seen all the griefer pirate tactics until today, Here's the newest one to watchout for.
Mining in High sec, I was approached by a player with a sec staus of -.1 or so. He proceeds to start a conversation up about where he may obtain an item for cosmos mission he just taken. Being helpful, I told him that the item dropped from rats in the asteroid belts, and if he was patient, i would get some from my hanger when i took back the next load of ore.
After returning with some of the item he needed to complete his cosmos mission, he thanked me many times over for my generosity. A few minutes pass, and he offers to thank me with a gift. The wanna-be Pirate flys out of system, returns minutes later, jettisons a can, and warps off out of the asteroid belt.
I wait about 2 minutes to open the can (being cautious, but not cautious enough) and find a bpo and some other items. Not seeing the player nearby, i thank him in local, and take the items out of the can. At this point he warps back in and pods me.
Guess thats what i get for trying to make the game a better place for someone needing help. Next time someone asks for help, I probaly will have to just ignore them.
If you are are curious as to wanna-be pirate, it was Gindar of Wreckless Abandon (WR3CK), Triumvirate Alliance.
Save yourself any hassles or headaches by just turning them red now.

I'm not disagreeing in that fact that is was my fault for trusting someone I just helped out in the game. The point I was trying to get across was this. For those of you here to test your ability vs all aspects of the game, I ran across a n00b attacking unarmed ships.
Turn him, his corp, and his alliance red so you can avoid this same problem I had.
How do I know it wasn't a player of any experience or ability? His fragile Myrmidon managed to take out an ever so threatening Mammoth moving minerals for 2 miners. Such a challenge it was.
Had it been a real "Pirate", I assume he would have at least tested his ability vs a frigate that might fight back.

ok your wrong....I am a pirate yes, but I'm not a d*ck. I may shoot 1st but if you take the kill well and ask what can be done to avoid it or even ask in general about the game I will help you.I had plenty of help when I started EVE and will give the same opportunity to others...but I'll kill em 1st. It is not my fault if they don't pay attention to or heed the lowsec warning.
Your short sighted view of EVE is what turns the commuinity iton a "yahoo chatroom". What just because I'm a pirate in EVE I am a jerk in RL. Get a grip dude.

Wow, you should have aligned before taking the can, I would have suspected a trap as soon as I saw the BPO in there.
Align, nab the loots, warp off and dock. Then wait out the aggression timer.
Never trust anyone when it comes to flagging and the contract system. Both are great ways to get screwed if you're not careful.

well dood i hear ya but you can still help the "new" people (this guy was obviously just baiting ya tho) with just avoiding all the ways to get you flagged aka shootable in highsec. next time someone wants to give you a gift, tell them to contract it to you or trade it at the station ^^...and your fine.

Edited by: Yoinx on 27/09/2007 11:28:07 I believe this is why they allow you to trade from player to player in stations. You should have had him follow you back to the station you were hauling to, and just traded the item to him there. If he honestly wanted it I dont think it would have been a problem. If he refused, he's obviously just baiting you.

Crap like this is what makes Eve the most dangerous, hardcore and amazing PvP game of all MMO's.
You can't do this in any other MMO out today. The art of scamming, betrayal, the threat of all even in the most secure enviroments. The ability to put trust in individuals that matter.
True friendships, and true rivalries. If you're not careful you can lose alot of investment in Eve, and if you aren't smart in mind not just in the gear you have, then you stand to die in this game.
No game out there challenges the PLAYER as well as his character. Eve would not be what it IS if not for this kind of threat.
If you can't spare help to a new individual without being mindful of possible betrayal, then don't help him. If you find that a cold statement, then welcome to Eve online. For that matter, welcome to the real world. Your signature exceeds the maximum allowed filesize of 24000 bytes -Kreul Intentions ([email protected]) "Born Amarr. Raised Matari. Separated by hatred. i must agree with the OP about the fact that such ways of pirating are very low and lame (and yes, i recently posted about my first can flip, oh the irony)
i mean: with attitude like that, no1 is ever want to help newbs... and in case u don't know: a game without new newbs, ends dying.
but with attitude like that, and adding the lazyness of CCP on certain aspects, i really do NOT wonder why this game has such a small playerbase compared to other MMOs out there.

And replies like this, kids and adults, are yet another proof that many "pirates" at Eve are sad losers in RL who compensate for their loser-ness by trying to be big and bad online. Question is only whether or not they admit it.
...And in case they are as mature as they claim to be, then why in something's name do they repeatedly keep acting like such nerdy losers ?

Edited by: El Verbatim on 28/09/2007 10:25:00 Edited by: El Verbatim on 28/09/2007 10:24:30 There are ways to check if he would attack you or not.
As you say he warped in, he's probably nearby, scanning towards your belt and checking if his cargo container is still in space.
Simply drop out your own container, give it the same name as what he did (if he gave his a name that is). Let it sit there long enough (so he can see 2 containers in your belt) and then take your own container back. He has to warp in as he can't be sure that you're taking his can or your own. When you see him warping in with a combatship, you know you better leave his can alone.
When he doesn't warp in after a few minutes, repeat the same procedure a few times but at a certain moment, take his can instead of yours and warp off.
An other option is to go passed his can, start moving towards the station while making sure you pass his can at full speed. Nick the can, engage warp and you are out of the belt before he has even seen his can is gone.

-yes i did scam him. this guy had 4 accounts all mining in a hulk so losing a mammoth ain't gonna hurt. -it wasn't a bpo it was a crap bpc and other junk i got from cosmos missions 2 jumps over -next day YES i did lose my ship to him, here's how. after doing cosmos missions for several hours and getting bored, i came back to play again. this time i wanted to try a few new things, so i was switching cans and using repper drones etc. well i forgot i aggro'd and was sitting in the belt. local started moving i thought nothing of it, next thing i know i see 2 battlecruisers in belt. got stuck on roids, couldn't warp out. i died while killing drones and trying to get away. -no it's not an ego thing, i did it all just for fun and to see if i could.
so i'd say we're even now.

And replies like this, kids and adults, are yet another proof that many "pirates" at Eve are sad losers in RL who compensate for their loser-ness by trying to be big and bad online. Question is only whether or not they admit it.

Originally by: Aahz Zorin I thought I had seen all the griefer pirate tactics until today, Here's the newest one to watchout for.

Lesson: keeping one alt near yourself in the same system is very handful. Next time let your alt come to you, get stuff from gift can and place in his own. By taking stuff now from relocating can you start blinking red only for your alt. Move alt away and thank sweetheart pirate in local.

people like him are the reason some of you guys got such a good start in this game. People love this game for the crowd of people willing to help and how great the community is, but crap like this is what turns the community into a yahoo chatroom
/signed again
hahaha...you opened his can...what did you expect?
undock in your pew-pew ship and get back at him..or get a friend in a pew-pew ship to do it..or simply get a friend in eve you can trust..or more..ore a corp..or an alliance
fact is these kind of people , 12 yo-minded brats and griefers plague every single mmo i played before , the beuty in eve is you can actually get back at them , make there lives miserable and TRY do drive them away from the game by effective means (pew-pew them round the clock , have a locator agent pinpoint them whenever they log in (add them to adress book to see them when they log in ) , then get your ship , your friends , your corp , the mercs you hired and hunt/camp them till they log out...if done right this works well...)

I dont think anyone wanna change EVE too much. EVE is fun.
Its just that you have to wonder why some ppl find it amusing to kill defenseless victims like miners and noobs, instead of doing some real PVP, against other PVPers.
And that can, ladies and gentlemen, be answered by psychology. We have the same kind of ppl running around on our streets, beating up defenseless ppl, like kids and old folks. The mindset is the same; They have to take out their anxiety on someone/something that cant fight back.
Most ppl in EVE, just like in the real world, dont need to do that. They find release in other ways.
And for you who say that EVE is just a game; EVE is "time invested". Just like you invest time in maybe draw a picture. If someone was to come along and just rip that picture apart, you too would wonder what was wrong with that person.
And once again, to you who say "it was just for fun!"; If you cant realize that the person on the receiving end of griefing dosnt think its fun at all, you really really have serious psychological problems.
Yea yea sure, you can make fun comments about it and laugh it all away with some witty sayings, but it wont change the facts;
You guys are weak. A strong mind dont need that kind of satisfaction at all.

And since when did I claim to be uber? Actually far from it, I just think you honor-tankers need to realise that pirating is a legitamite proffession, and yes we do indeed make our money off your tears.
You claim that I have no life, and yet you consistently come onto these boards to cry on about how someone just blew up your internet spaceship. Yep, I'm the obvious pschological case here, cause instead of playing for two hours, dying, and then whining on the forums for a further 2 hours, I play for 2 hours, and if I die, I log and come back to try again the next day.

Quote: Its just that you have to wonder why some ppl find it amusing to kill defenseless victims like miners and noobs, instead of doing some real PVP, against other PVPers.
You must mean picking on someone weaker than yourself isn't really PvP, rather than picking on someone weaker than yourself isn't how it happens for reals in real life.
Quote: We have the same kind of ppl running around on our streets, beating up defenseless ppl, like kids and old folks. The mindset is the same; They have to take out their anxiety on someone/something that cant fight back.
Does that apply also to Sun Tzu, who advised generally not getting into fights one wasn't pretty sure to win? Does that apply to the Coalition forces in Iraq, who go out in M-1 Abrams tanks against people with AK-47's and improvised explosive devices?
Quote: Most ppl in EVE, just like in the real world, dont need to do that. They find release in other ways.
Most of the people who do do it in EVE, just like in the real world, don't need to do it either.
Quote: And for you who say that EVE is just a game; EVE is "time invested". Just like you invest time in maybe draw a picture. If someone was to come along and just rip that picture apart, you too would wonder what was wrong with that person.
Except PvP is a built-in part of EVE; it's more like if you invest the time to learn how to run, throw, catch, tackle, etc. and then some was to come along and sack your quarterback, tackle your wide receiver, and run your fumble back for a touchdown.
Quote: And once again, to you who say "it was just for fun!"; If you cant realize that the person on the receiving end of griefing dosnt think its fun at all, you really really have serious psychological problems.
Well, a little socially inappropriate maybe. I'm married to a counselor and my son is applying to Psy.D. programs, and I'm not sure either would characterize EVE piracy as a "serious" psychological problem. (Although there is a difference between griefing and PvP.)
Quote: Yea yea sure, you can make fun comments about it and laugh it all away with some witty sayings, but it wont change the facts;
You guys are weak.
You got me there. Less than 30 days in the game, less than 1.5M skillpoints, I'm darn weak. And even though so far I've only ganked players with more skills and gametime (try finding people with less gametime than me in lowsec), they haven't really had the chance to fit their ships properly yet.
Quote: A strong mind dont need that kind of satisfaction at all.
Yeah, I don't need a pirates life, just like it. Some of my friends tell me a strong mind doesn't need to be spending hours playing video games at all; go figure.

Money, you dimwit.
If I went on attacking people I don't think I could take, I'd have to carebear for ISK, which is a mindlessly boring activity.
Pirates PvP (or pirate, or whatever) for the sake of being able to PvP - most 'PvP-ers' run missions to be able to PvP.
If it weren't for the PvP part of EvE, I'd have stopped playing after the first two months and went off - since PvP is obviously what I'm interested in, then I'd be a fool if I picked only 'fair' fights and had to do something as atrociously boring as mission-running to actually be able to fight, wouldn't I?
Unfortunately, after moving to a new place, I can't play EvE till they sort out the network. Just trolling the forums doesn't cut it ;P
