Hello all, Just wondering what to train and how to do what in EVE. In your opinion, which is better? A vexor all sup up with tier II equipments plus weapon? Or a Dom with Tier I equipments and weapon?

Erm. If you don't have the skills for a Tech 2 tank, I'd not be caught dead in a Dominix... but that's just me.
You'll still get more DPS (maybe) out of the Domi, and (maybe) have a better tank. It depends just how good your skills are.

Hello Liang, I enjoy reading your post very much, just want to let that out . Anyway, I am very new to the game, barely 1mil sp. Currently training for gunnery 5 and small hybrid 5, Gallente, so decent drone skill + all tank skill are at 3 except the hardener. Any recommendation?

what are you using it for?
for missions there might be an idea to go for bigger... if you think you can handle lvl4.

Go for the Myrmidon... eschew the Dominix for now. It'll be a bit easier, and a bit bigger. If you're still in level2 missions, take along 2 flights of mediums and a flight of lights.
If you're still in level 1's, definitely run with the Vexor.

Still new, so i am still stuck at lvl 1 mission. Still haven't figure out how to move past lvl 1 mission yet. I am wondering what skill should i train for at the moment to enjoy the feeling to PvP to the fullest.

Propulsion Jamming 2 Gallente Cruiser 4 Drones 5 Drone Interfacing 3 Combat Drone Op 4 Hull Upgrades 4 Repair Systems 4 Mechanic 4 Scout Drones 5 Drone Interfacing 4 Gallente Drone Spec 4 Energy Systems Op 4 Energy Management 4
Then move on with learning skills, and run level 1's - 3's in your Vexor. Then move into the Myrmidon. When you've got your learning skills up a bit (350K'ish):
Hull Up 5 Mechanic 5 Repair Systems 5 Long Range Targeting 4 Battlecruisers 4 Heavy Drone Op 4 Targeting 4 Sig Analysis 4 Energy Systems Op 5
Finish however far you want to go with learning
Energy Management 5
And then move on from there.

Check out the "agents available to you" in the stations you frequent; when a level 2 agent is available, you can talk to him for level 2 missions. You can also search for level 2 agents available to you through your current agent's corp or through the star map.

just a hint, if you want your drones to do damage, get drones and drone interfacing up first ;)
and you get better missions via doing missions: you get standing as a reward for the missions, and the more standing you got, the better agents (and thus missions) you can run

If you'll train Connections skill to level 3, you can use any lvl 2 agent in a friendly faction.
A little advice - stay out of battleships for the first few months. They need quite a bit of skilling up to use them well. You can get away with it usually if all you use them for is missions, but you'd be better off finding a carebear corp and going along with someone else on level 4s in a battlecruiser until you can fit an all T2 battleship tank (hardeners, membranes, reppers, etc), can use T2 light and medium drones and can run all that without capping out 90 seconds later. (holy runoff sentence batman...)
Screwing up and losing a 20-30 mil battlecruiser hurts a lot less than screwing up and losing a 60-110 mil battleship.

For missions, I'd use the Dominix with tech-1 equipment before the Vexor with tech-2 equipment.
For PvP, neither. I'd use a Vexor with tech-1 equipment before the Vexor with tech-2 equipment.
I only bring tech-2 equipment to combat when I'm bringing a battleship or an actual tech-2 ship. When I'm bringing a tech-1 cruiser like the Vexor into PvP, it's all about cheap cheap cheap weapons and modules. ---

GETTING BETTER AGENTS/LEVELS
1. click on the company tab for the agent you are doin missions for.
2. now click the agents tab.
3. now u should see listed all the agents u can and cant use for that company.
4. pick a better agent than the 1 you have currently, ie. better level or better quality and head head off to work for him.
5. look at this regular and switch to better quality agents as soon as possible (every few missions depending on company) and you will be doing l2`s before you can blink, if u cant already!!
ps its a while so i might have missed somthing.
ie, stick with combat mission type agents, security/command/legal (theres others)

There is fallacy in this thinking. If you go to a fight expecting to lose it, and do not take any precautions against losing your ship - you will lose your ship.

T1 fit Vexor can do all L1-2 missions, so the T2 fit won't change much.
L3 missions you should be in a Myrmidon or Dominix, so the Vexor becomes a non-issue.
I'd suggest getting all your Vexor related skills(drones/armor/capacitor) to Level-4, all but the cruiser-4 will transfer into making your next Myrmidon/Dominix that much better anyway.
PVP a T1 Vexor with good skills is an excellent/cheap learning ship.

I don't particularly care about missions, and haven't run one for ages. In PVP, fitting your ship like crap is asking to die.

I tend to spend a bit too much money on my ships to get mostly/fully T2-fit. A) I want to win, not lose less. B) I don't want to look like an idiot if I end up on the wrong side of the killmail
A T2-fit Vexor at Cruiser 5 is a mean mutha.

Edited by: SkyEstaLimit on 28/09/2007 19:32:03 Using a T1 cruiser, T1 fitted, fully insured is a great way to learn about PVP. You wont lose any isk worth talking about and you still can enjoy yourself. Also, a well thought T1 fitting can win over a badly engineered T2 setup.
Of course, hardcore pvpers will tell you it is better to fit T2 gear. Well, it obvious, isnt it ? If you are still at your first flights out in dangerous space, you are much better off fitting T1 gear.
Knowing you will lose nothing makes you more relaxed, and leave you more time to think, analyse and learn instead of take panic and cuss over the loss of your shiny T2 fit cruiser of doom.
Also, if you are still new at pvp, fitting T2 gear might just lead to get those said hardcore pvper richer, by looting your wreck.

Therefore I am a loser :(
Anyways, if you're that low on SP, I'd stick with the Vexor. Cheap to replace if you **** up, and since you shouldn't be using heavy drones at this stage anyways, your DPS will be about the same as a Domi/Myrmidon. And for PvP, I'd suggest learning using a plat insured, T1 fitted cruiser. Very little loss that way, and being new to PvP, you're probably going to lose your ships whether they're T2 or T1 fitted.
And even when fitting T2, I'd recommend cutting corners when you can (especially when it comes to cap injectors, MWDs, and the things you don't need high performance out of but need anyways). ------------------------------ One more soldier off to war... And one Velator in my hangars. |
