I just tried this setup in the level 4 "Gone berserk" and the setup handled it no problem, but this is a easy mission and I was wondering if anybody had advice regarding this setups performance in tougher missions.
High slots
6x Arablest Siege launchers 2x 150mm Prototype gauss
Mid slots
1x Large shield booster II 1x 5a Prototype shield support 4x Best named rat specific shield hardeners (2 to each damage type)
Low slots 4x Power diagnostic system II 1x ballistic control system II
Rigs
3x Cap control circuit
Lowest resist is EM @ 71% and it runs cap stable with everything active.

You'll die with that setup on one of the harder level 4 missions.
High's: 6x Cruise launcher, 2 Heavy NOS (even with the recent NOS nerf this really helps ur tank). Mid's: X-Large shield booster (large wont cut it), SBA, 4 rat specific hardeners Low's: 3 BCU, 1 PDU, 1 Co-Proc (swap the co-proc for a PDU if u don't use t2 launchers). You can also swap out one of the BCU's for a damage control for a while until you get more familiar with the missions.
It's also a must to get 3 capacitor control rigs or u'll run into cap problems to soon. This isn't a perma run setup but it worked for me (never did enemies abound 5 tough... to scared :D, so avoid that one till u get leik t3h uber faction stuff)
Oh and please learn to use the search function on the forums (it's a poor system i know but theres so many raven setups on the forums it will make you dizzy).

Edited by: Xilian on 28/09/2007 11:27:36 i use a similar setup for my raven in missions. though i use a heavy nos in high slot, and a drone link (no power for anything else) and i use a shield boost amplifier in mid slot. never had any problems with any lvl 4 mission, however i have never tried Worlds collide.
And large shield booster II works fine, no need to waste cpu on X-large

Here's my setup. Sorry if I've been spamming it lately but I'm gonna keep doing it until I get some comments on the flux coil method of permarunning non-X-Type SB setups.
6x Cruise Missile Launcher II 2x [empty high slot] (whatever, tractors maybe?)
X-Large Shield Booster II Heat Dissipation Field II Invulnerability Field II Photon Scattering Field II Shield Boost Amplifier II Cap Recharger II
4x Capacitor Flux Coil II 1x Ballistic Control System II
3x Capacitor Control Circuit I
As I said, this is a permarunning setup that doesn't cost 2,5 billion isk =) It's also possible with rather low skills.

Well yeah, the tank is decent, but with only one BCU the damage is pretty pathetic (only 335 from missiles with maxed skills). Very inefficient for mission running really.

Looks ok to me, gone Beserk's such alot of fun.
But as someone has said above an XL shield booster II with boost amp II and cpu II for fitting will go a long way for your tank.

Edited by: Thrus on 28/09/2007 14:36:38 Definately need the x-large shield booster. The large will not cut it in harder missions.
Personaly I'm training to make my tank all T2 gear, hardners, booster, and shield amp. As I was not happy with what I got with nammed. although I run with 3 hardners so, normaly 1 of each type and a invuln field, and then the last slot is currently a shield recharger, will chage it to a Cap boster with 800s when I get some free grid from advanced weapon upgrades. but right now only have weapon upgrades 2, so it needs some training time.
And the Nos realy does help. but don't have a clue how to fit it with torps as my current skills would only let me convert 2 of my curise launchers to torps before my grid was gone.
Here is a post in regards to just the tank on a raven, i was not looking for highs or lows. but is a good area to see what people tank with.
I asume you have good drone skills as frigs are going to suck to kill with torps. yes torps are much easier to train for but no they are not worth it early on they take a good deal of support skills to make work well. Disclaimer: i have no clue what your skills look like and you may well have the support skills for tops, makeing an asumption based on starting L4s then againg asumeing often give me bad info.

What harder missions are you guys talking about? my large shield booster works fine in all missions. as i said earlier though - i havent done worlds collide, or enemies mission 5. all other missions are fairly easy with my large booster. perhaps i should give the last two a try next time i get the chance.

Ive done a few missions with this setup since posting and it does fairly well, I tanked the entire spawn in the first part of recon and hung around to kill everything and did some other missions and the tank holds perfectly even with 6-7 1 mill BSs.
The DPS isn't outstanding with one BCS but once the frigs have been mopped up i set the drones to work on the BS im targeting, My drone skills are not great, Drones V, Drone interfacing III, Combat drones IV, Scout drones IV so no T2 drones yet but even now they can take out cruisers and BCs.
I'm considering training for target painter drones to help take cruisers out quicker are they worth it?

I shoot curise so may be off, but i would think that the target painter drones would not rais your dps anymore then you would lose by giving up damage drones, but could be way off.
as to harder ones some of us have refered to, there are times where I would have my booster running for a bit before having to warp out. and the damage i was taking was equal to or more then the booster was doing, I can't recall the missions off hand so sorry. then again that also was where i would get an extra 3rd type of damage being delt so it would hurt more, plus keep in mind that i run 3 not the 4 hardners that you guys are doing.

Light target painter drones give 8% bonus to sig radius so assuming they are not stack nerfed in some way that's a 40% increase, I can still pack 5 Medium drones for frigates its just down to whether 40% increase to sig radius is a significant improvement to torp damage vs cruisers.

I don't think 40% would be a significent bonus, say average of 140 (only looked at 2, 135 and 140 so going higher one) that would be a gain of 56 for a total of 196, your at around 1/2 your explosion radius for torps when skilled for them? so we will say 250 damage insted of the roughly 1/3 and 150 damage. guess that is worth it. I was incorrect there, my brain always changes to frigets as the thing to up damage to.

ok now this is gona sound odd but, armor tank, 3 ccc full rack of rechargers in the mids 2 reps and some hardners and nothing is going to be able to burn through your armor (well npc wise anyways) and with tests on the test server i was able to run both reps and hardners indefinatly
also if you replace the rechargers with t2 ones you can probly remove 2-3 of them and put somthing like a painter and other stuf on
dps wont be soo good though... ---------------------------

Armor tanking is pointless in PvE as you can easily shield tank any missions while retaining dps, also you can do so with a perma tank so why bother with armor tanking it?

71% is very, very low resists for a Raven running hard level 4s for certain.
Try losing 2 of your specific hardeners for 2 Resistance Amps for starters .
Take 1 PDS II out and fit a Beta Cap Flux Core there and see how your cap regen is then .
Third , take the 5a whatchamajigger out and try an Invul II.
This will help both your Cap regen rate as well as your resists ;)

with cap skills 5/5 it runs with 3 pds II and 2 bcuII that 5a thingy is a shield boost amp correct?
and it can do worlds collide, and most other missions
the assault is one of the problem missions if you get jammed. and the em/thermal missions when you get full aggro can be troublesome.

71% is his lowest, he admits taht it is the worts.
why take out 2 active hardners and put in 2 passive hardners? this will lower his resistances that you said were not good enugh.
siege launchers are very grid intensive, I'm guessing that they are there for a reason. I've never been able to get better results with a cap flux core, every time I try puttinone on i lose more then i gain. this is in testing with EFT.
do not remove the shield boost amp to put in a invul that will eat as much cap as the 2 hardners you said to remove. plus the stacking penalities from now 5 different types of hardners will suck.
cap regen is not likely to be helpd as he has no cap problems to start with, the stated setup is permatank I would guess. also every bit of cap drain you said to remove has later been replace, excluding the flux core that i have not had luck with.

Cap is no problem it runs cap stable, I use PDS because they give multiple bonuses to power grid, shield amount, cap regen and cap amount, none of which you could consider bad but i have lots of Grid and CPU spare which gives me flexibility to change things around.
71% is the lowest resist but my resistances when tanked for are 71% EM 77% Thermal 82% Kinetic 88% explosive and Im just waiting for Tactical compensation IV to finish so i can use T2 Hardeners which will further improve resists.

With stacking penalties that are in place now , you're going to get more out of mixing active/passive , than you will stacking all of one type .
Try it out , you may like it :)
