I see I'm not alone in this idea...I recomend grinding some missions for GTCs beforehand.

Yeah theres absolutely nothing at all in the Dev blog about current fleet battle issues nor are they doing anything at all like adding more hardware or upgrading the client to be able to handle the current state of affairs in a reasonable fashion..
CCP says a lot of things but I dont' recomend holding your breath...

Gang up with a dozen other players who don't want to fight in a gigantic lagball and go attack the enemy somewhere else while all of their forces are committed. Simple as that.
Just so you understand...I wasn in a roaming gang engaged by Tri and desynced while "Jump sequence yadayada" showed on my screen. There were maybe 30 people max in system. Desync is not just for fleet battles. I've desynced in missions...

No one wants to lose, thus blobs happen. If one side doesn't blob the other side will blob and win. What does that teach? That blobbing wins. Blobbing will not stop until CCP makes it impossible or non-effective. ------------------------------------------------ Anyone got a good compression tool for EVE sigs? |

Bingo. This person gets it. Until CCP overhauls the basic mechanics in such a manner that blobbing won't help accomplish your goals, people will continue to blob. Change the fundamentals so n+1 isn't always better than n, and you'll see the blobs break up. No blobs, no lag (outside of Jita).

Blobbing is a direct result of easy travel.
20 jumps away? Just wtz the whole way and you'll be there in 30 minutes or less or get a cyno net and be there in 5 minutes.
You wanna know what made blobs, it was instas, then jumping caps, then wtz. You wanted faster travel, now deal with the consequences.

Its easy to b*tch about what's broken. But has anyone got a solution for this? CCP is trying to fight it but for now they fail.
They could try to cap every system to 100 users and see what gives. It prolly will tick off a lot of peeps but it could bring back some of the fun.
So now it basicly means you can cryo your char and wait for it to get fixed if you don't like the game anymore. Since not paying is the only real way to let CCP know you don't like it (anymore). |

Easy fix. Do away with WTZ and any possibility of instas, and either reduce cap ship jumping range, increase fuel costs, or both. Now when alliances think about going half-way across the galaxy to blob up, they will actually leave their home defenseless for a day or two.

No need. Just decentralize wartargets in such a manner that a defender has to field forces at multiple points and potentially across multiple systems, and so that an attacker benefits by splitting forces to hit multiple targets at once.
As to the n+1 > n problem, perhaps a potential for friendly fire once a gang exceeds x size?

Yeah thats what they said when they first got the 'yarrware' (yarr ware yeah right) CCP needs fight to last NOT longer, remove stacking and bring the game back to how it was in exodus.

I do understand your frustration, but I'm sure CCP are doing their best to fix the problem, actually I'm sure they go beyond fixing the problems.
But the entire programming of a new engine takes time and requires extensive testing.
I guess we'll have to endure untill the release, since the current program seems insufficient or requires too much work to make it worth the effort.

A space game with a major focus on pvp and in particular, strategic pvp where systems are conquerable will always have huge fleet fights.
With so much on the line, both sides will always commit all they can to the fight. It's a challenge to any MMO developer who design their game with this kind of pvp to be able to deliver it.
Eve nodes handle ~300 in local pretty well. ~400 and it gets really hairy. Any more and you can kiss the nodes goodbye.
The problem right now is graphics aren't handled by the gpu, so as you load up 300 ships in a fleet fight, your frame rate drops to 1-5 fps. The servers can still handle this much load however. So trinity 2 will ease this by letting the gpu handle graphics. However, servers themselves need to be re-designed to be able to handle huge loads on demand.. i.e. much more scalable. As it is, at 36,000 peak players the servers are running on an average of ~22% load. That's a LOT of wasted resources not being allocated properly to systems that need it.
So until they fix the server architecture themselves, trinity 2 will only help small fleet fight graphics lag. |

I heard somewhere that along with the shiney new GFX there is going to be a shiny new network layer and afaik an ability to dynamically shift multiple nodes to one or several systems as needed or at the least have multiple nodes on one system with DT load balancing.. It's all buried somehwere in the Dev blobs..

Unfortunately fleet battles are more about who has the patience to spend hour after hour in Eve Power Point slide show mode then who has the better skills or tactics. I'm hoping off loading some of the grunt work onto the GPU will help, but I'm not holding my breath. I don't know of many online games that can scale above 75 players in real time without some sort of server lag.

How about Eve? Plenty of players who have lovely 100vs100 lag free(ish) fights if they get lucky with thier battle system having enough server power already allocated to it.. Currently its simply a hit or miss type of thing and one that hopefully gets sorted after November..
