I here so much about how bad these forums are, but I have found some doozies. One of the worst is my local newspaper's reply forums.
here is an example. An embarrassing example, a good reason to banish people from my state from the Internet.
I look at these forums and kiss the ground the mods walk on.
As flaming as it gets here, it could be so much worse.

Any forum that discusses politics "pwns" (as is the parlance of our times) any video game forum in ignorance, crude behavior, and general stupidity. If you think your newspaper is bad, then you should see the Politics Section for Yahoo Q&A. Degenerates, all of em...

My general experience with forum quality is (from worst to best)
Political forums
Gaming forums
News forums
Special / Limited interest forums
Restricted access / registration forums

These forums are pretty bad, but forums do tend to level people by the lowest common denominator. The "goonswarm" phenomenon. Humans are at their worse in large numbers and these forums are no exception to that unfortunate rule of humanity. If people, me included, treated this forum as if it were a personal conversation 1 on 1 with an entity we could call "the community" I am sure the level of discourse would be less passive agressive and more conductive to an actual debate instead of the usual slug fest.
Most of the forums I have been on have been like this though. These are still readable I guess.

All public internet forums are teh suck as the anonymity virtually guarantees that whatever is posted is filled to the brim with self centered biased spin doctored drivel by default..

QFT. I know when I kick up a politcal forum I'm going to get some "lulz" so to speak. I never cease to be amazed by the simple ignorants I have to share my world with.

democrat forums are more fun to mess with because there's so many different ways of crazy for them to go. Republicans tend to gravitate towards the "you hate america" line peppered with barely conceal racism, and they do it pretty fast. Democrats are much more fun. They can spin off onto an unprovoked diatribe about bush, or some whacked-out conspiracy theory, or about how you are the man who is keeping them down and so on. For added points, get into an argument about gun control with them and say "I didn't know you trusted Bush that much".

Lol.. The playerbase has no connection to the forumbase.. We .02% of the total ingame population just come here to enjoy the forum pvp whilst we mine or travel to some distant place..
