Hi, was hoping someone out there can help me with this recently acquired skill.
I have been looking on the market for shield 'Hardeners'and they dont seem to be advertised under that name. So what do I need to buy and where do i need to fit it?
Also, any usfull hints and tips on this subject would be greatly appreciated

Edited by: Fritz Ionar on 18/02/2004 10:26:33 Shield hardners are under "shield upgrades" in the market. Don't remember the name of them, but it's the once with the orange shield icon.
[edit - ok, mabye it's shield subsystems... My memory might be a bit off :)] |

off the top of my head, on market "ship equipment" there will be 2 categories for shields:
"shield upgrades" and "shield something"
check in there, that's where you will find them. ______________________________________________ Hellmar > sorry for the attitude, playing a n00b character through the current state just left me a bit bitter dev chat: Mar 18, 2004

In the market if you select shields and energy then shield subsystems you will find them there. They have a red shield icon and there are different types that give your ship resistance against the different damage types. For example Photon Scattering gives you 50% EMP damage resistance when activated which is a useful one to fit as your shield has a weak EMP damage resistance. Hope this helps.....

And be aware that if you use i.e. a Heat Dissipation Field I Which gives 50% damage resistance to thermal damage and your ship has already 19% thermal resistance, you get as the overall result not a resistance of 69% but of 59%. Correct me if I¦m wrong.
The resistance of the hardeners is related to the difference of 100% - current resistance, in the example the formula would be 0.19 + (1 û 0.19) * 0.5 = 0.595 (=59 %).
And check your enemies which weapons/ammunition they use to equip your ship with the correct shield hardener. A shield hardener for EMP damage is useless if you¦re fighting enemies which cause only Thermal/Kinetic damage.

that makes prepairing for Projectiles a tricky thingy, since they cover all damage types, and usualy 3 different per ammo.
