I really like the Hurricane, but I am about 20 million short for a complete fitting. I could easily get the money on my mining alt, but I don't know if its a smart idea to go straight for a battlecruiser. I really want to fly an artillery ship, and I'm not sure if I should go straight for a hurricane, or just hop in a Rupture, or destroyer. Thanks in advance everyone!

If its for pve then grab your self a hurricane as chances of losing it in pve = slim to none.
For pvp I would stick with a rupture untill you are sure you can afford to lose and replace hurricanes without crippling your wallet.
The rupture makes a great small gang 720mm arty platform, its cheap too so you wont cry when its utter lack of tank gets it popped

I'd say the hurricane is better of with AC's. If you want arties, stay with the rupture, or go for the muninn or tempest - for pvp.
As for pve, it's generally the bigger the better - ALWAYS. Might be a close call betwen a bigger t1 and a smaller t2, but within the same tech bigger is always better for pve.(lvl 1/2 missions might not be included).
And the golden rule of EVE, don't fly what you can't afford to lose.

If your readdy for a Rupture why not just get the ship, after all once your ready to move to a Hurricane you can just sell it and move up to the BC.
Always remember that players are buying and selling modules and ships all the time, its not like buying a car where you lose a large percentage of value just by driving it off the lot :)

I'd fly the Rupture, learn how to do this stuff, basically garner experience, then when you're comfortable with it move to the Hurricane.
