Yo guys, got a tricky question. I've wanted a facial piercing for some time now, 2 actully. Both lower lip, left and middle. Now I know how it proceedure works. You take the hole, put in a straight rod piercing and let it heel for about 6 weeks, constantly cleaning and washing the rod the whole time.
However the military doesn't allow piercings during active duty. Which in my case is from about 0600 in the morning till about 1630 or on some days 2100, after that I can put the piercings back in no problem. Same thing applys for weekends, when I'm off I can have them in, and when on duty take them out. But I do have the possibility of having them in everyday, however not for the whole day. I know this will probably make the healing process more difficult and longer and make the holes easier for infection to come.
Thing is I can't be arsed waiting another 9 months so I'm wondering if any piercing experts of such could help me?
Iwish my corp would stop dieing... |

Depends what branch.
Plausible in the air force or navy. In the infantry you cant even grow a beard as it will create gaps when wearing a gas mask.

hey will never have a chance to heal up, and your holes will close if you take the piercing out for any length of time, especialy in the first 4 weeks or so. i would say wait untill you go on leave and then get the peircings done. By the time you get back to duty, they should be healed up enough.

I simply can't understand why someone would willingly rip a hole through his face to place a piece of metal in it.

Its a lie they tell grunts as most grunts are too "dumb and stupid" to question it. It is very possible to have a beard and wear a gas mask with no breaks in the seals, it's just very very very uncomfortable Unable to unanchor batteries? Dont dispair, it's not a bug its a feature |

As I understand it, if you're crazy enough to join the military you might as well go the whole 9 yards and mutilate your body.

I know a guy in the Army who has a tongue stud. So I guess it just depends where it is. I think anything on the face is a no-no, though.
I used to get It. Then It changed. Now I don't even know what It is.

Edited by: dawood koplanski on 30/09/2007 01:26:10 I was in the RAF for 5 years and never saw anybody with a facial pearcing. Also the trade i was in was one of the one's which was fairly lax on disipline so id say no. You have to remember that operational duty can involve long deployments overseas and you pretty much can guarentee to be doing at least 1 tour overseas a year in UK forces these days. So unless you can get away with not wearing your pearcings for 4-6 months a year non-stop id not bother.

You could take a chance and get plastic see-through piercings to use during the day for however many days/weeks it needs to keep the hope open enough. People used to do that in my high school where piercings were not allowed. In fact, all the piercers sold them.

The bit Lofty is referring to is i believe a plan set out by David Cameron if the Conservatives took power at the next General Election. So its a year or so off, if they win.
As for piercings i don't know any Service over here in the UK that would allow such a thing. If your in the field your asking for infection, ripping it out etc etc.
So don't bother getting them or don't bother joining,

Try getting your gas mask on with a full beard in less than 7 seconds. Oh you didnt make sure your beards caused any gaps? To bad buddy you just inhaled mustard gas.

I don't see what the problem is, the military has allowed 2 piercings at the hairline and 1 at the frontal lobe for years. The indentation looks a bit like the shape of an apple corer, but the plugs cover that up when in public.

DK if you ever get the chance to actually wear a gas mask with a beard do it, you'll learn it is posible to get a seal with a beard, your just gonna be pulling the straps so tight that it'll hurt badly and you wont want to do it again.

your not meant to do it, any facial piercings/ tattoos and you will be on a charge immediately for a self inflicted injury, if your in the British military this can even mean spending a few months at colchester nick and no you don't want to go there, just wait till your out, i have tattoos i have served but i waited till i was out till i got mine.
just don't do it otherwise they will put you on a charge and you will NOT be paid during that time.
