Need some help folks. Right got some guests around and their son has a laptop, with vista -.-. Essentially you get the BSOD when booting up every time about saying probably a plug and play issue. So as normal you do the run in safe mode but no get BSOD this time saying its been shut down to make sure it don't harm itself and says run a chkdsk. So I run safemode command prompt so i can do a chkdsk as i can't login to do one and low and behold you get the same BSOD before you get into command prompt.
Now this came about as the son went into the media direct bit on his laptop (Dell Inspirion 6400) and it BSOD'd. And now we have this issue. There is no disc so I can't boot from that as I run OS X and XP so no vista discs about.
So how do I fix it?! I can't boot into safe mode, run command prompts etc. OR is there ways I don't know of?! Help please, I would like to help them out.

Sounds like a reinstall of Vista would be the best...

If it was purchased new, drop the laptop from a height of 5 feet and request that the new hard drive they send you be imaged with XP.

120 to 12 volt power converter.
Remove hard drive from laptop Put positive lead from converter into a USB port Run negative lead inside laptop case across the plug in contacts for the hard drive. Put hard drive back Call Dell, ask for someone that speaks English and request onsite repair.

Linkage
download it and run it and burn the basic pe to a cdrom.
Boot from it and in the menu there is a checkdsk utility. You can also view file structure with it. If worse comes to worse, you can hook an external drive to the laptop and xfer data to it.
