I thought I had this one worked out but now I'm not so sure.
I've got a standing of 6.45 or so with the Minmatar Republic, but a corporation I'm working for won't let me use their good quality level 3, nor any level 4 agents.
The corporation, Core Complexion, is a Minmatar corps and I haven't built up a standing directly with it, so I must be getting the standings cascaded down from somewhere else. Otherwise I'd be limited to level 1 agents.
What am I missing here please?

Hmm, what are you missing... ...a bugreport ?
Seriously, you should have access to most L4 agents there already. _

ok, there is an "agent standing" and then there is a "corporate standing".
to get the higher ranked agents, you need the corporate standing to be higher, not the agent standing.
and then there is your standing.... but i dont want to complicate things needlessly

Wrong.
To access an agent, you need a) ALL faction, corp and agent standing above -2.00 effective AND b) EITHER faction, corp or agent standing above "agent requirement"
The only difference is with research agents, where agent standing does not exist, and you also need a corp standing above a certain level (if you plan to access the agent via high faction standing). _

I have an alt that has no standing at all. I have joined it to my corp which has a corp standing with boundless creation of 6 something. Shouldn't the corp standing effect the alt? This character doesn't have any standing with BC and can do the research agents with BC with just corp standing.

Nope. Player corp standings to NPCs don't matter at all. Only personal player standings to NPCs does. _

Edited by: Fink Angel on 03/10/2007 17:27:18 Ah, thanks for the responses. So when the blurb says:
"You need a minimum effective corp standing of at least 4.65, in addition to an effective faction, corp or personal standing of at least 6.65 to use this agent"
That means I need a standing of 4.65 WITH Core Complexion? Nothing to do with MY corp membership?
I meet the latter part with 6.70 personal, via the Minmatar Republic, but not the former.
I wish they'd show the stats for the ones you already meet the requirements for, just for a comparison, but that line disappears once they will talk to you.

Edited by: Fink Angel on 03/10/2007 18:53:44 Thanks again mate. The official docs in the game box weren't clear on this detail.

Edit: I just realised why it's not a great idea for your corp to bestow NPC standings upon you. Someone could just sell entry to a player corp that has high standings, and everyone could hit the research agents at a high level with no effort. It all makes a bit of sense now.

Heh, it was slightly sarcastic. I do actually own a boxed copy of Eve from way back when, but the documentation in it is minimal, and like with all MMOGs, things have greatly moved on since it was printed.

It is odd because this character (my main) doesn't have any standing with boundless creation yet I can get R&D agents from just corp standing.

The character DTMF has +3.08 base standings with Minmatar Republic and probably perfect zero base standings with Boundless Creation. Assuming you have a Connections skill level of 4, this would mean you have a +4.18 standing with Minmatar Republic and a +1.60 standing with Boundless Creation. That should be enough to grant you access to the L3 Q-17 agent (needs 1.15 corp and 3.15 corp or faction), but not to the L3 Q+15 agent there (needs 2.75 corp and 4.75 corp or faction).
P.S. Actually, same with L3 connections, you'd have enough for the 3/-17 but not for the 3/+15. _
