the only reason to ever rat in a bs in 0.0 is if your skills are insufficient to do so in a bc. i know people who have been able to rat in 0.0 in a cane with no problems at all, never having to warp out or anything, depending on true-sec of course. a phoon is big and clunky, a cane aligns faster and is the safer choice imo.

1) bs kills far faster 2) bs can actually kill the top-end spawns 3) phoon is not that big or clunky

BS kill spawns faster. Killing spawns faster = More money.

The cane can kill most 0.0 spawns just fine. Not sure about certain officer spawns, but the usual tripple BS spawns are easy enough in it. Never ratted angels though, but I hear shield tanked canes tank them good enough. (turret based BS wont hit a close orbitting cane btw)
I use a pest now, but thats just because its faster than the cane, not because it can't do them. (And the auto-cane goes through ammo FAST)

I'd go with the Phoon because of drones + missiles (or guns if that's where your skills are, but a pest might be a better choice for that).
I'd eschew most tank - you don't need alot of tank to rat in 0.0, so fit for "speedy ratting" (align time, speed to get to wrecks, and just enough tank to tank the biggest spawn you'll find long enough to whittle it down).
I personally rat in a 450 DPS max gank drake.

Imho the real money in 0,0 is no longer in the belts with their tiny 3 bs spawns but in the mini-plexes and Encounter. So far I havnŠt heard that a Bc can tank and kill theese things.

GAH, I have vowed to give up my forum whoring ways (jeeze you wouldn't believe some of the **** people have said in local...), but this really is too much to ask for.
On my T1 Drake I can tank 2000 DPS vs Guristas. It's even better for Nighhawks/Vultures (which are T2 BC's last I checked).
I had someone in my alliance tell me that I couldn't tank the 0.0 plex in my Drake, but he did it in his Raven... so you're telling me that he fit a Raven for 2000 DPS tank? Sure.

Sadly, if you spend the same amount on modules a drake can far out tank a raven.
Sure a raven with two Gist A-Type XLs could probably tank better, but what ship wouldn't?
But for ratting you probably want a BC because of the reduced align speed if nothing else. ----------- Support fixing the EVE UI |

Haven't found a 0.0 anomaly yet that my Drake (BC L5) with 2 BCU2, 1 SPR2, 1 DC2, 3 Invul T2, 3 LSE2 couldn't tank ...
isn't it funny how some people advocate both GTC<=>ISK trades and EVE being superior due to its cruelty and costly losses, when they use the former to circumvent the latter?

Torps + ACs + heavy drones + a target painter = melting npcs. A 'Phoon with one LAR II, a nano pump / accel / CCC, 4 hardeners and 2 BCUIIs, plus an AB and painter in the mids will wreck whatever spawns you happen upon, and be a good bit of threat should a red player happen upon you. Haven't tried to fit a MWD, but that's pretty standard too.
I used to swear by cruise missiles for the range and relative speed, but after spending one day with torps I am in love with their face melting ability. Angel rats like to get up in your grill, so closing on them shouldn't be a problem.

Edited by: Proxy 13 on 03/10/2007 13:21:29 Thanks for all the advises so far As i am quite fresh to the forums (and the game), my original post didn't expressed my intensions quite clear. Well, i usually solo the rats and complexes (if i am lucky enough to find some before others ). Despite the tankings on these two ships, i also need enough guns to kill the rats. If a hurricane can just make it, i ll buy a cane. if there are some complexes that anyone found it's "impossible" to both tank and kill the rats i ll go for typhoon then. (cause, although it's relatively safe, who knows a red might sneak in the pipe while all the intel guys are off for a snack? lose a phoon might put me back into mining again) A rough setup of the ship you recommend will be much appreciated

Edited by: RuriHoshino on 03/10/2007 15:31:33 Bah! I've nothing to do with those corporate-enslaved missile spammers, except to kife their Invuln Fields for my own purposes.
Also, be aware that I hated the 'phoon at first because I did not have the skills to fly it well. You need heavy drones AND large AC's AND good missile skills AND good nav skills before this worm comes into it's own. If you find it frustrating to fly, you don't have the SP to fly it.
If you can, though, there's nothing in space quite like it
Edit: Following the advice I gave earlier, but a bit clearer -
4x Seige Launchers 4x Dual 425mm ACs 1x 100MN AB 1x Target Painter 2x Cap Rechargers 1x LAR 4x Hardeners (or 2x and an EANM + DCU) 2x BCU
1x Aux Nano Pump 1x Nanobot Accel 1x CCC
CPU is tight. If you can squeeze in a MWD instead of the AB I'd do it. I haven't tried this fitting myself yet, but I intend to. Weapon Upgrades 5 is a must, but you want that anyway.

I will not fly a Phoon. CCP messed that ship up. For the skill points it takes to use it, it should be superior in some way to other lesser skill point requiring ships. Since it is not, I will never fly it.
I am Minmatar for long time now. I trained drones because that thing had a nice drone bay. I never trained missiles because my ships had gun bonuses. And they do this... _________ If your not dyin' your not tryin'. |
