If you started playing EVE between the begining of the year (01/01/2004) and yesterday (18/02/2004) and you are flying a frigate you can apply to:
"THE GREAT NEWBIE WACKY RACE" with a reward of 10.000.000 isk  PLUS a Basic inteligence implant (+ 3 to inteligence on your char).
This will take place this sunday 22 at 22:00 GMT. Further details will be posted soon(tm).
Meanwhile send your application to me via EVE-Mail. Aplications will be closed Sunday 22 at 12:00 GMT

By the way tell your friends that they can bring an expendable ship to "aid" you in your race (If they don't want to lose security status create or use an expendable char).
Like D1ck Dastardly did in his races
, your friends can shoot, Web and disrupt your oppositors in any way possible until Concord acts upon them (the race will be held in a 1.0 system).

You might want to set limits on the 'aid'
I could easily see a missile boat dropping in, unloading a bunch of cruise missiles and poping back out again, at no risk of being concord ganked.

i think i heard that if launch a missile and then warp out the missile wont do any damage (changed last patch i think). But "wacky" means anything goes, soo...

A quick look on the rules:
These contest is ONLY for characters created between the begining of the year (01/01/2004) and Yesterday (18/02/2004), this will insure that they are really newbies and not alt chars created just for the race.
This is a frigate race.
All players must be ready and on site at 21:30 GMT sunday
The race will begin at 22:00 GMT same day at a 1.0 system (will be posted soon)
The number of friends you bring is your concern. The more the better chances for you.
The race will occur in straight line and players must pass between secure container made gates.
After the race begins the "Friends/Foes" can open fire upon contestents or upon each other.
"Friends/Foes" can be anyone and can only fly frigates (recomendation due to concord ).
"Friends/Foes" can wait on the secure container gates or anywhere between them but only after the second gate.
The race will be win by the Newbie that reaches the end first or by the one that reaches further on the course.
During the race the only rules are: Players need to pass between the gates, and hostilities can only be open after the race starts
PS: I cannot be held responsible for ship losses or for podding although i recommend that no one pod each other because its unnecessary and this event is supposed to be fun.
This event was created to offer the newbies a chance to see EVE in action i hope you enjoy it.
If the rules change by any reason or if they are updated i will write it here.

Who is videoing the event? I would be up for cutting together a vid, but i'd rather participate than video it <grins>

The Race will be held at NEW CALDARI, New Caldari Prime.
The race will begin on top of the Monument.
The race course will be 39 secure containers 50 Kms from each other on a straight line (2000 kms total).
Racers need to pass within 5 kms from each container (a referee stationed there will insure that).
Your friends can visit the course and make warp bookmarks.
The racers CANNOT warp by any circunstances

Anyone that has the skills can use them, but remember u will need shields and cap to be able to last longer against the attackers. the setup its your choise.

Some time in the future i would like to make one of this races in a 0.0 system without concord interference.
Unfortunatly to ensure the safety of the event and to set some rules i would need DEV support.
The reasons that made me do this type of race were:
1- Help the new guys to enjoy EVE (I play this since Beta 4)
2- To have a test before opening this type of Wacky Races to everyone.
The rules of a bigger event should be more or less as follow:
1- Anyone can apply to the race
2- Each Racer can bring 5 supporters (saboteurs) with him.
3- It will be held on 0.0 system (no concord interference)
4- Each racer/supporter will pay a fee according with the ship class.
5- The money raised will be awarded to the first 3 racers (ie: 60% - 30% - 10%) (if the devs want to throw a Lv2 BP to the winner...)
6- All ships/modules/clones lost would be refunded by DEV support
7- Only players that paied the fee, referees and event supporters can enter the system (DEV. assistance)
Ps: This are just guiding lines, if the devs want to pick up this idea i am free to help. Nevertheless if i dont get DEV support im planing to do another 1.0 Wacky Race this time open to anyone.

Ofcourse you could create a alt char between that period and i cant do anything about that. But what i can do is to prevent that people create a alt char just for this race.
I don't have Dev powers so im trying to do the best with the info and tools at my disposal.

The containers say "gate" - how close to each one do we have to pass? (as the course as it's currently set up doesn't seem to have "gates" as such - they are just single 'tainers)

the gates are made from 1 container only. you need to pass within 5 km from each of them. This will allow "saboteurs" to target racers more easly.

I wouldn't say completely lag free... Something was bugged on my system (as no-one owned up to doing something evil to my cap)
At the start of the race and during all the pre-trialing i was doing - i was able to fire off both MWD's when my cap reached 55%
During the race it messed up - quite badly. My cap display stopped functioning properly and even at 80% cap i couldn't fire off both MWD's at the same time.
I wouldn't have won anyway - an (almost) sustained speed of 5km/s is hard to beat (hats off to him <grins>) but kindof irritating.
Anyway. - good fun and definetly will be participating in the next one (had to go to sleep <grins>)
