BlackHawk177 Dark Cartel	Posted - 2007.10.03 23:54:00 - [18] Actually the plane the 'Dual' Mustang is based off of. The P-38 Lightning is nothing more than 2 P-51's put together with 1***pit. Early design models even show the holes where they removed the original Mustang***pits and tried to cover it up to reduce the drag. So technically yes, Not the original plane you were discussing, but it's 'prototype' you could say. Although I'd take a Lightning over the 'Dual' Mustang any day. ^_^

The F-80 was rubbish but, the twin mustang just lacked the same top speed as its jet counterpart. The first aircraft noted in this post was a design for a german airboat I believe.. it was either a FW or HE cant remember off my head. German aircraft designers make HUGE leaps during WWII a great number of the designs where later used too enhance american jet research.. F-86 sabre delta wing is a big one..

F-82, first flight in 1945 according to this page. The 3-view in the OP looks like some kind of prototype Catalina flying boat with an offset tail. -=^=-
