I had read this some time back and decided to try my hand.
After I bought and setup the POS I was able to setup weekly buy orders from people for all simple reaction items except Ferrofluid. But I was able to buy 5 sets of 16,800 units on the market with buy orders. The highest buy order was around 8,200 with the sell orders at just over 12,000. But I think I made a mistake and pushed the prices through the roof (Or was one cause of it)
Instead of putting in a buy order for .01 above the next highest person and getting to top of list I would make it 100 above the next highest person. (I figured evenually people would stop putting in buy orders and the list of people would thin out) So the price went up to 9,000 and the sell orders stayed the same. So far okay. Then the price of Ferrofluid goes above 10,500. The same day the price of sell orders goes above 14,500. (See here)
Not just some of the sellers: All of them moved to that price all at once.
Strangely enough Hexite has crashed to below 2,000 and Hyperflurite is going below 5,000 as well. Both are required for Ferrogel production. (Prometium is going up)
So now I am wondering if the original poster about the potential profit of Ferrogel was not done to drive the price of Ferrogel down some much as to drive the price of Ferrofluid up. Of course it could be related to this topic too.
Thoughts?

There are no selfless "tips" in the market forums. The posts you are referencing were made in order to influence the market for personal gain. You bought into it, they profit.

I am VERY grateful this happened right now as I was planing on setting up a 4 large POS chain for ferrogel production

Edited by: Dei on 04/10/2007 22:01:02 My old corp had a hand in the ferrogel market until we decided to abandon the towers (after the payback period had ended of course). It is very profitable, but requires a lot of capital. Just take the time to calculate the other reactions and you may find yourself very suprised.
Not all reactions take 1bil+ capital per month. ---

Are you talking about putting up 4 medium towers for the intermediates and 1 large for the component? I never did like that model of managing pos. When I used to do reactions (as in I was producing all 36 t2 components and was running reactions to support that) I just put up a large and a medium and ran reactions in series to meet needed stock levels at the various component layers. If horror of horrors no reaction was needed at a particular tower I just offlined it to save fuel.
This results in the minimum volume of production possible, which is an excellent place to start with t2 component production. If you identify other profit opportunities or find that you can't keep up with sales, your operation easily scales at both the medium and the large reaction layers.

Nah this is just a large tower in 0.3 with a fat reactor and a **** load of guns. Plus a moon miner of course, but it barely pays for the fuel. Was much easier as a small corp that way rather than running 5 towers simultaneously (plus a research high sec tower).
Running all t2 components self-sufficiently would be awesome, but it requires waaaay too much man-power for my liking. Very high reward, very high risk. ---

It looks like someone picked up all the sell orders & re-listed them.
