The amazing thing about the metal "elitists" that exist on this forum really make me laugh, because their taste in metal pretty much always sucks. Yet, they think they're so kvlt
I haven't heard this album yet, but I do enjoy Nightwish.

I'm so troo nekro kvlt that I only listen to norweigan black metal recorded before 1992, on 4 track casette recorders.
Good sound quality is for posers.

I guess you didn't get the 'we got a new singer' memo.

I got the new album about a week ago. I must say that the new singer Anette is completely different than Tarja. But I think that was the only solution. Nobody could replace Tarja with the same style of singing.
But somehow I liked Anette from the start. I think she has really fresh and soft voice and the songs sound like they are made for her.
Overall the new album rocks hard. One of my favorites right now.

Anette is pants, but some of the music on the album is as good as they have ever done.
Poet And The Pendulum is epic, Bye Bye Beautiful and Amaranth are catchy, and Master Passion Greed is superbly heavy, sounding like something out of St. Anger than DPP.
Whoever Brings The Night and The Islander are also top songs.
Now all they need to do is get their sense back, and bring Tarja back with it and it will be all good.

I respectfully disagree with your personal opinion and present my own.
If there ever was one thing that bugged me about Nightwish it was Tarja. It wasn't the voice itself, mind, her voice is very good but it lacked the spark -- the sort of energy Anette gives off. So, Tarja - exit right, Anette - enter left!
Off topic, metal elitists are the worst kind. WTS: "Irony T2".

They sound quite similar to me tbh There's another band that sounds quite similar as well, Within Temptation?

I agree, but for different reasons. I don't like the sound, texture, whatever, of an operatic voice. I loathe opera. I don't know what it is, there's just something about deep loud warbling that puts my teeth on edge. It might just be that it sounds so horribly pretentious
The new singer is much better, she sounds a bit like The Corrs (edit, yes I know she's Swedish not Irish, I don't mean the accent I mean the texture of the voice ) __________________________ Indulge Me Consider Yourself Indulged - Immy ♥ Wow immy scored - Xorus |

I agree thou, I think the songs of Within Temptation and Evanescence lack the so called depth or multiple layers of instruments/melody. I don't know what it is really named since I am not an musician.

That is the problem with Evanesence, there is no musical depth at all. It is what's her name, and that is it.
Having a female singer is about the only similarity I can draw between the two bands.

I see where you are coming from on that, but that's exactly why I like Tarja, because Anette's energetic, jumpy style is too common and doesn't bring anything unique. Tarja was very special in the way she presented her voice and the way she was in the music videos. There was a huge epic feeling about every word that she sang and even in the heavier songs like Planet Hell their was a calming feeling about it all.
Anette just sings a bunch of stuff, but it never sounds anything other than average rock stuff. Except in Whoever Brings The Night, where the voice distortion works very well.
The only good thing about Tarja's departure is that it gave them loads of material

There is a guy like that in my company. It can get fairly annoying tbh, especially when he gets on a tirade about how the 80s ruled so much in comparison to modern metal (all genres included), and according to him the first album of any given band you mention is usually the best (and Metalcore is THE enemy). A psychoanalysis could prolly reveal some interesting facts about this lot .. anyhow back to topic, gonna give the new Nightwish a whirl I guess. I usually listen to Death and Progressive Metal, but I always had this soft spot for certain (not all) Nightwish songs. __________

To me, Tarja signing sometimes felt like pulling teeth. I'm not that masochistic.
Lets agree that the beauty is in the eye of the beholder, shall we?

Oh man it rocks HARD
My head is bobbing like the Undead WoW dance
I really like Anette's voice, softer yet still powerful.
The music is very cool, not emo at all, more like power/speed metal.

I don't like this album, it sucks compared to Once.
The first song is really good until it gets to the part with the emo kid who *****es about how hes being raped, then after that the bandmembers forget which genre they're supposed to be covering and it all goes horribly wrong. I reall like Last of the wilds or whatever it's called, though. That song is pure win. Still, I only like one and a half songs of that entire album = fail

From start to finish it is one of the most pretentious musical works i've ever listened to, which is a shame, cos i really like previous Nightwish albums.
And the new singer sux monkey balls, gimme Tarja any day of the week.

Dark Passion Play was amazing. Nightwish has definitely proven that they can survive without Tarja (despite her beeing amazing), and I just LOVE them going back to their style from Once.
