A corpmate, just recently having picked up the game, wants to eventually be an artillery-packing dread pilot. What all skills would be suggested for this lofty end goal? I've given him the list to passively boost his cap, CPU, grid, shield, armor, and hull, but what else would he need to be a good pilot in this regard?

Start by informing him that Minmatar capitals are not worth training towards - especially if he is starting from scratch.
well, to add to the list, the Jump drive skills are also needed.

But... it looks so fine...
Besides - by the time he is finished, the nerfbat may have hit the other races. You just never know.

Tell your friend that unless he feels like only flying in lagging pos battles he should aim for something else first, something fun for pvp/pve (whatever it is he likes).

Edited by: Mudkest on 04/10/2007 19:05:41 missile skills. Seeing naglfar suffers from the split perso erh weapon syndrom you'll need both proj turrets and capital torpedoes on it(or waste half the bonus and half the highslots on it) other then that, both capital armor and shield tank as agian it suffers from dual persona ehr tank capabilities.
might as well get drone skills up to finish the list and have the (support) skills to fly every minmatar ship(and about half the galante, caldari and amar ships as well)

Dreads are delegated to POS warfare and anti-capital work for a reason. In any other PvP situation, they're basically flying bricks, with blind-as-heck gunners.
VERY tough flying bricks though.
I'd strongly advise he learns the basics of PvP and look for another long-term goal, like skilling for another racial ship family and being multi-faceted -

I'll pass everyone's advice along on that. So if he wants to maintain Minmatar ship skills, what ships would fit his desire for something relatively tough with a lot of guns?

3 mill skill points in every skill tree catagory except the fallowing. gunnery minimum 8 mill skill points spaceship command 13 mill skill points race related exceptions: minmitar and cildari 6 mill in missile. minmitar and galentee 6 mill drones galentee and amarr 6 mill mechanic.
your looking at years before you can fly a capital ship without it being like an oversized tin can. to many players losing cap ships because they think ther invincable the minint the sit in the cocpit. but nooo a well skilled bs kill your cap ship and you want to quit eve because you dipressed.

I am serious, train minmatar and fly their CSs and such all they want, but for cap ships - the 'correct dread' is the Revelation, and for carriers its either the Thanatos or the Archon - and no - we are not getting buffed. To be honest, Nagfars die so fast for a dread its not funney. . .if you are going to drop a bill and a half on a ship and spend 2 years training properly for it - chose the right one. Its all about the tank - and to be honest - we minmatar are not a sit and tank race. . .its only right that the major tanker race get the best caps i guess.

''We'' implies that you were not just one BS, I'm sure it's possible, but would take a very long time. And stop being so damn sensitive, that's no smacking.

Sure you want some certain skills maxed, such as cap skills, weapon support skills, but in reality you don't need 15 gazillion points in every category to be good. I don't know where 13m in SS Command was pulled from, but that sounds like multiple races being trained to 5. I would say that you want good drone skills (if not maxed for relevant skills), Capital reps (skill at 4, doesn't take that long), maxed cap skills/fitting skills. Cap skills are probably among the most important to train to 5.
Capital ships are a lofty goal, but it doesn't need 3 years of training to achieve.
