As to missing out on a lot of good offerings, perhaps. But 4.4% per 2 weeks (starting in 24 weeks) is a lower percentage than I make myself, so I'm not really missing out. I invest to help drive the player driven market, that's the main reason. If I make a profit from it at the same time then great. The only exceptions to this are Ionia's bonds, those are supplemental income for me when I have some spare money that I can't find any use for.
i like this quote. i think the player driven stock market is a fun game, inside of new eden.
i believe some people (who have billions laying around), invest to have a steady stream of income to finance their pvp ventures (no need to rat if you've got 5% of 15b coming in every month).
i believe that a number of regulars to this forum, invest for the reason shadarle stated. not because they couldn't make more isk themselves; but in order to stimulate the player driven stock market.
i still wish there were more actual 'shares' being issued by new corps, versus bonds and other offerings with a fixed time attached to them. not saying that there's a ton of bonds out there right now, just saying there's not a ton of publicly traded corps out there right now.
i love the idea of eetf and emfi. i wish there were enough publicly traded corps as to support half a dozen+ mutual funds, to the point that we had low-, medium- and high- risk mutual funds.
perhaps, moving forward, eetf/emfi might branch off and do that. eetf2 - high risk mutual fund, emfi2 medium risk mutual fund; etc.
with locking down of assets and entities such as the e-bank starting up; the potential IS there.
bleh, i'm going off on a tangent before i even make the post.
sooooooooooo, why do YOU invest?
me, i think it's an interesting part of new eden, and believe it will only receive ccp attention and "upgrades" if more and more people are involved. in order to accomplish THAT, there needs to be more people directly involved in the player run stock market arena - hence, my (and anyone's) support helps bring dev focus to this part of new eden.
it's nice to have income coming in if you take a break from eve for a bit; but i can normally make a bunch more with a bit of ratting, trading, or even mission running; without a crapton of effort, than the divs i receive on a LOT of my shares.

I think you would be the most annoying person to talk to. You seem to ramble on and on about unrelated issues as if you're posting your thoughts rather than your words. It's some of the most nonsensical gibberish I've ever read.
I invest for two reasons. Because I like the idea of a thriving player-owned market within EVE. And also, I like to make ISK with minimal effort.

Well I originally invested because I thought I'd be away from eve for 6 months + and wanted my money to be doing somthing in that time.
However, now I'm playing, I keep it invested because... well I don't really know why. I suppose I just like the idea of it. I could certainly make way more myself if I cashed in on those shares and I think I probably will do that with some of them. In the long term I'd like to make more and become a 'full-time' investor, I'd use that as my source of income so I wouldn't *have* to spend time making money if I didn't want to.
I also just like the thought of helping the player-driven economy grow.

Thats a big reason for me.
I've found that I use about 400m of isk a month. New ships, random small purchases and various other things. Im a somewhat suicidal pvp'er so I tend to get stuff blown up a fair bit.
Once my income exceeded this, I had a lot of extra cash. Then I invested enough isk in various things so that ALL of that 400m was dividends. Now whenver I earn isk it goes to more investments, which increases my overall + monthly. And the cycle starts again.
That, IMO is the key to getting wealth in eve.

Ive never invested in anything but my own ventures. While I see lots and lots of opportunities to, I've felt uncomfortable giving my isks to someone else, no matter how well worded there plan is. That being said I've been tempted on a number of occasions to, well, almost....
Most of the people that I've considered have had a definite presence in the game, for as long as I have. That being years of play, posting reputable information etc. there are those that come to mind, and I watch closely what they offer, but as yet I've not been tempted to bite.
I really really wish CCP would create/support a means of stock transfer, through in game methods, not relying on players to do it. Coupled with accounting tools and methods, I believe, given these incentives, I just might....

I invest because I know if I hold the money I will spend it on Gist fitted CN ravens then go afk on a L4 respawn mission whilst son is crying and come back to a pod.
Or fly a Gist fitted raven into 0.0 to go nuts, and think I can kill a mOo 5 bs gank in my uber ship
Of pop into lowsec and sit in a belt in my gist fitted raven whilst there are 12 pirates in local, hoping only 1-3 will show up at a time and cursing when 7 show, target jam me, and curse some more knowing I fitted siege launchers so have no FOF capabilities against all those frigs.
God only knows how many billions I have wasted on all of this crap for nothing. If I used my head and put it into these kinds of investments in the first place, Khatred would be kneeling before me in awe.
(and yes, every single one of the above has happened to me, most multiple times)

Meh your rich enough, hire a entire Merc alliance to help out
Seriously though, I invest partly to stimulate the player market, I like following it and I enjoy knowing its there and seeing whats doing well and whats not and perversely I enjoy reading long winded business plans and taking a gamble if I think they are decent. It gives eve a depth that no other game could ever have.
Plus its nice to have a steady income when your a pvper who desn't know when the next R&R break is :) I can lose a lot and still come up with a positive balance at the end of the month. Luckly I don't loose a lot :) so a lot of my isk is reinvested into the market or other projects.

You have no idea how tempted I am to hire you guys to take out Miz's mom that's been terrorising lowsec these past few weeks just for fun
Anyway, if the Phoenix war goes on for more than another two months I may need to start selling some of my shares

i invest (if my tiny ammount counts as investing) so i don't have to run missions which make me want to leave eve or mine which makes me want to do the same i want to run around in 0.0 with my cute little toys and silly set ups and not HAVE to make money if i don't want to and just fly around and shoot people and chat with people in local shoot a few people get drunk and hope i wake up in the morning
sadly i'm a few million off being able to do that yet :( so i have to fly missions i have to mine i have to do all the stuff that isnt so fun :(

I use the dividends to pay for GTCs. I like the idea of someone else's efforts paying for me to play this game
My objective is to have 400mil every 90 days from Dividends. However I feel this should be upped to 500mil shortly.

I only recently started playing again, and already on the horizon I have another long afk from the game. Such is real life. This time though, I decided its enough that I lose out on my skillpoint training - I shouldnt just leave my cash on standby. So, I decided to invest my isks and let them work for me while Im offline. I have no where near enough knowledge of the economics in EVE to speculate in new and risky IPOs, so for now Im going with the established IPOs with one exception.

Wow. I have nothing against the guy, I think he killed one of my gist ravens a coupla years back but I just think it would be awesome if news filtered through to say that a carebear hired a large force who eradicated the person no-one else had the guts to attack
But, just a pipe dream I think

I invested because I didn't want anymore time sinks to earn ISK for me so I could focus on PVP/Exploration/or whatever the hell I wanted to do today.
10B in shares - makes me about 400M per month (doing nothing). 10B in tech 1 bpos - makes me about 400M per month (making and selling bpcs). 40B in tech 2 bpos - makes about 800M per month (full time running ~10 factory slots). Keeps my factory alts busy.
PVP follies - loses about 1B per month. Thus leaving me with about 600M per month to continue to invest with. I owe it all to many months of mercoxit mining and trading early in my eve life........

I don't invest because I can get much greater return from my ISK myself with little effort. Comparing a few hundred million ISK for doing nothing to billions of ISK for doing a little bit of work, I'd rather put some effort into it and pick the later. And it's not really work, its part of playing the game for me and I enjoy it, so I got no need to invest.

I rarely invest actually. But when I do invest it is because of two reasons. First, do I have the isk to toss away. Second, do I think it is a toss away. A few times I've invested it's been sand pounded down the scam hole. Other times it was not.
Meh.
