Hello,
I've been doing some reading up on these forums, various player-websites, etc . and I'm a bit confused about the mineral calculations for production. When submitting for multiple runs, the numbers just don't add up. I'll start with a simple example:
Phased Plasma M (Base Mineral Requirements) Tritanium 601 Zydrine 1
The blueprint has no ME research done, and the character has a PE of 3. This should mean that I have 10% waste attributed to design and another 10% attributed to incompetence. The breakdown for a single run is thus:
Tritanium Base: 601 Tritanium Design Waste: 60.10 Tritanium Incompetence Waste: 60.10 Tritanium Total: 721.20 (721)
Zydrine Base: 1 Zydrine Design Waste: 0.10 Zydrine Incompetence Waste: 0.10 Zydrine Total: 1.20 (1)
This indeed matches the quote from the factory. If we crank up the number of runs though, say to 100, the quote no longer matches the calculation.
The quote looks like this now:
Tritanium: 72,110 Zydrine: 100
If we take the base, from our previous calculations, round it and then multiply our numbers look like this:
Tritanium: (721*100) 72,100 Zydrine: (1*100) 100
Obviously that isn't right, so let's save the rounding until the end and we get:
Tritanium: (721.2*100) 72,120 Zydrine: (1.1*100) 110
The numbers still aren't right.
I'm sure that I'm overlooking something obvious and I was hoping that someone could point it out. Being off by a grand total of 10 is no big deal in this case, but the more minerals, the more expensive the minerals, and the more runs, the more catastrophic the mistake can be.
Thanks very much for your help.

Well, perhaps the do the initial rounding in the beginning so that people don't work around it. For example: From your example waste factor for the Zydrine would be 1.2, rounded down to one. For four runs the waste would be 1.8, rounded down to 1. In this case, the person manufacturing, if he wanted 80 items would make 20 sets of 4. The first run of four would cost him 1.8 rounded down to 1 Zydrine. A new installation cost would be 1,000, and since Zydrine is worth 2,000 or more it would be better to start a new installation rather than putting the first run to 5 and wasting another Zydrine.
I hope that all made sense. I'm not sure if it works this way or this is why, but it's a possible explanation. ------------------- 4 8 15 16 23 42 108 |

Just thought I'd add that the Blueprint Profit Calculator seems to be suffering from the same problem that I'm having. I haven't tried MEEP yet, can anyone check the numbers with MEEP if they get a chance?
I also haven't submitted one of the jobs (runs 100) to see if the quote does not reflect the consumption reality yet. I may do this later today.

I've checked MEEP, version 2.3.1.0, its calculation also matches mine, but disagrees with the factory quote during job installation. |

You also may need to figure the waste factor of the station. I believe the refining % is factored in by standing, might not the production level?

According to the station manufacturing quote, the factory material modifier is 1.0. Are you saying that the refining yield has an unlisted/undocumented effect on factory production as well?

Similar strange numbers for Gatling Pulse Laser I (ML 0) and PE 2: Trit quota: 1 = 260 10 = 2602 100 = 26019 1000 = 260199
It seems that the handling of floating point numbers and rounding is not accurate like in many other application, not desigend for math operations. --
