How are you connecting to the Internet? (i.e. Hardware/Service Provider etc...) also what are your machine specs?

Yeah! I am having the same problem! Sometimes I can even get into the game and play aroun a bit before I lose my connection. I'm using Netzero High speed its suppose to increase the speed of browsing but I have even tried turning the thing off and it still hangs. I'm on a 56k modem with an athlon 1600 700 megs ram geforce 2 Thanks! Dave

I have been playing eve fine up until recently, now i keep getting CTD'd and lose connection to internet! This wasn't a problem a week ago and as u can imagine is a problem when mining! have lost two ships recently due to this which coresponded to two weeks 'work' down the tube! Spec is no where near a problem. As i say it worked fine before am getting very p***ed off it's happening now! Would reinstalling game and patches help or is this something else!?
Any help would be appreciated

I can get to the character logon screen, but from that point, the game locks up. I was fine all day yesterday.

also have the same problem, 56k internal modem. apart from eve all goes well but when i start eve sooner or later i get disconnected. i also have the feeling that when i then try to reconnect whith client still running the connection-handshake sounds are a bit fuzzy, like the dial-up process didnt have enough processing power or such. specs cant be a prob as i run on a 2800+ athlon
any hints?

Same problem. Even worse running 2 clients at once, which I used to be able to do no problems from July to early April.

Are you using a 'real' 56k Modem or some Winmodems?
Winmodems, while they cost less, rely on the main CPU to work. 'real' 56k modems have their own cpu and do not rely of the main cpu like Winmodems does. What happen is that all goes well with the connection, until a CPU intensive program like EVE start. EVE use the CPU and so the Winmodems drivers cannot run properly because that they to rely on CPU. So the connection get broken.
So if you are using a cheap Winmodem, switch for a 'real' modem. I'll recommend US Robotics. If you can have it, hi-speed internet work like a dream. But you already know that :)
Good luck --------------------------------

I have had this issue on and off since I joined eve 9 months ago. I can go for weeks without a problem and then have a week where every time I try and play I get kicked after 5 mins or so. Its NOT a connection problem because I can carry on browsing the web, sending email etc.
This problem has been brought up time and time again and never seems to get any attention. Probably because those of us that have the issue are the "poor relations" using 56k dial up.

Edited by: Bobby Wilson on 20/04/2004 04:41:32 This is interesting. By "real" modem I'm assuing you mean a controller based modem? I did some pricing and it looks like $100. I'm not buying something like that as an experiment.
IMHO there's a problem with CCPs code, since I can play all kinds of nasty, challenging games without my modem disconnecting. I've played RTSes, RPGs and FPSs on my system with the problem NEVER happening. I should also note that it has been months since I've had this problem with EVE, and over it only happens once every fews months and then CCP fixes whatever the problem is and I go back to 2 accounts on comp/modem with zero problems. This time is the worst ever though, so CCP needs to get their thumb out soon.

I had this a lot with my 56K internal modem. In my case im almost certain it was because the CPU got to busy to service the modem correctly. I went and bought an external modem and havnt had a problem since. What I did find that helped with my internal modem was to install XP again as a second OS and just run Eve, firewall and antivirus and nothing else. That seemd to stabalize things a lot. If you install/reinstall stuff a lot on the same system as Eve it tends to muck things up after a while.

I've ordered an USB external and will test it on Saturday. ATM, ever after patch I can barely run 1 account without disconnects, and I sure as heck can't run two anymore.
Will post feedback once I've given the external modem a thorough run down.

P.S. External modem is MUUUUCH cheaper than a controller-based internal modem. I'll just have to sacrifice the desk space if it works :)
