Just thought I'd drop in with this...
I'm running a ATI Radeon 9000 Pro video card and I managed to get around the baldness bug by rolling back to the Catalyst 3.9 driver.

Ive just run into this bug, and tried to create a new character to change it. Well how do I fix this? Im not shure what driver I should use. I have a g-force fx xx00 (Cant remember think its a 9600).

well firstly cilia said the only solution ive ever heard of. Secondly as far as i knew this was restricted to several ATI cards, but u have it.... i guess if more peeps get this problem ccp will probably fix it :) Anyway u might as well do the obvious. Get the latest drivers for ur card and delete the prefs.ini (no idea if that would help)

Yeah I have this baldnes bug grr.
I can't roll back as there are other games that run better with the newer patch, but i thought if i installed the latest version everything might be ok. THis ended up with eve not owrking AT ALL. So i rolled back. So baldies are my world at the moment :( :( :(

ive got 4 machines that I work on, all with different cards (These machines do different jobs) and they all have the same problem now.
Devs can you fix this in one of the next few patches?

Well, I have this problem too on my Thinkpad T40 which uses a Radeon 7500 Graphics Chip.. I wrote to CCP regarding it and they mentioned that its a driver issue...
Well, CCP do has a sense of humour and suggested that my corpmates lay off the uranium rounds as it might be causing the hair loss 
Anyway, I fixed the problem by buying a Radeon 9700 Pro for my desktop and it works great now,,

Any solution to the "right eye-portrait bug"?
You know, sometimes, when you do "Create Portrait" on a char the right eye (from our standpoint the left one) will be transparent...
Try making one of the char DoAElvire. If you get both eyes right pls send it to me as that is my girlfriend's char :)

I'm running a Radeon Mobility 9000 on a Dell Inspiron 8200.
I had the baldness issue as well, and here's the strange-but-true way I fixed it.
Note that this worked for me, but you may be able to skip the middle step. I haven't tested it nor am I going to as Eve is running smooth now.
1. Fresh install of XP Professional (this should work with home as well). This is NOT a restore from the factory CD, but a fresh install of the OS.
2. Installed the Catalyst 3.1 drivers using a mod program I found on www.rage3d.com (look in the forums in the Mobility section for a link to the mod program). After the install...bald!
3. Installed the Catalyst 4.4 drivers from www.omegadrivers.com (the 2.5.36b drivers). Note that you MUST uninstall the ATI Control Panel PRIOR to installing the omega drivers. (You can probably just execute this step instead of step 2).
4. Voila! Hair! Very smooth framerate (not like on the home computer but very good for such an old igp).
