Edited by: Contralto on 06/10/2007 14:13:30 As the server has been mirrored today and skills are up to date (3rd October) I decided to head to a low sec system and try a few suicide runs to see just what to expect.
first attempt was a against Caldari with T2 tanked Megathron, with Dual Lar II's, TII hardeners, an Eanm II and a DCU II. because i had heard about the nuet towers i fitted 7 diminishing Nos in hi's. my aim wasnt to try to complete the mission , just guage the incoming DPS
first mission, no nuet towers but also no BS close enough to nos and I had no Ab to close the range. I lasted exactly 6 minutes and 27 seconds before the dps overwhelmed the 2 lars.
Next i tried a hyperion for its rep amount bonus (I have BS V) uber faction fit this time plus I used 3 rep amount rigs and my main clone with armor implants. Eft told me I could perma run the 2 lars without the Nos so I felt safe(er) Total repair rate was 3200 hp per 10.5 second cycle. (Lars were just TII)
This time the mission was Serpentis so I had 88% Kin Therm resists. Mission was called "Honor" I warped into an empty room and then the spawns started, somewhere in the mess of red were 2 nuet towers. I set some drones on one of them but even with 7 heavy Nos active I was at zero cap and dead in 3 minutes.
definetly not soloable in any active tanked ship. maybe in a passive shield tanker.
here is the Quickfit log analisys
Started fight at 06:36:40áááá-ááááEnded fight at 06:39:52 Acted for 03min 12sec
á. From Core Vice Admiral : 3864.2 á. From Serpentis Stasis Tower : 2294.2 á. From Core Lord Admiral : 172.8 á á. From Corelatis Captain Sentry : 1730.2 á. From Tower Sentry Serpentis III : 2003.3 á. From Serpentis Energy Neutralizer Sentry III : 7532.6 á. From Core Grand Admiral : 25417.2 ááááTotal : 43014.5
Note that damage equates to only 224 dps incoming but the spawns were spaced a minute apart so it was getting hotter by the second. most of that damage was in the final minute as the BS locked me and got in range.

To do lvl5 missions you need passive tank becouse of the neutralizators. Best is command ships pasive tanked (no rep) and dominix with remote reps and drones if nessesery. Done few missions like this but becouse they sucks comparing to lvl4 (low sec, pirates, not much isk) I left lvl5 missions.

Yes my little trial taught me a few lessons and one was lvl V's are not worth the aggro, it would take forever to finish those two missions with even 3 in gang. and rewards are barely sufficient if only one shares them. I was in a 0.2 system and the first mission only gave 8k lp's,2nd 14k despite my having all the connections books at lvl 4. Used to get 12k in a 0.3 on lvl 4 missions.

The rewards do need to be greatly increased. To do these I recall your supposed to use capital ships. So bringing your carrier or dread into it, getting your corp mates to protect/help you and such miniscule reward is completely not worth it.

I forget now but at least one of the 2 missions i tried were in deadspace so Caps cant enter, second mission "Honor" had more than one room as well.
other point is out of the 4 missions I recieved (I refused 2) all were in another system so a cyno would be required. Altogether way too much hassle for a mission. Both systems I tried had only one lvl V agent each so if you keep having to refuse deadspace missions you will have a lot of 4 hour waits. Murethand and Aeshee. Fed intel and Customs. Whats worse is with most missions in another system it leaves you wide open to gate camps on top of the easier probing risk with non deadspace missions I wouldnt be risking a 1 bill Carrier or T2 BS for 14k lp's.

Edited by: Emporors Champian on 07/10/2007 15:58:33 yes or you can tank it in a stiletto with 3 x T2 injectors and T2 AB. then warp in your bug guns after full agro and if you see any new spawns warp the big guns immedialy continue to agro with stilleto then bring back the big guns.
the towers go down quickly long as you can focus on them thus the interceptor taking little to no damage
this may take 1 or 2 trys but it works

This can be resolved by having multiple people in gang that can use the agent. I've done this before with L4 missions. Have everyone in gang take a mission then go out and finish them all then warp back and everyone cpompletes them. Please resize image to a maximum of 400 x 120, not exceeding 24000 bytes, ty - Cortes

Unfortunately, from what I have heard so far, lvl5s just don't have much going for them. Most of the strategies I've read of seem more like hacks to overcome a weird mission design philosophy than they do legitimate strategies to promote a fun pve experience.
Sadly, I'm thinking CCP needs to overhaul the missions significantly to actually make doing them a good idea.
Add in the major standings hit I'm told you get, to the crappy rewards and high risk you expose your gang to, I don't know why you'd do a lvl5 over a lvl4.
Nice try CCP, but I'm left going __________________________________________________ FOLD. The Ultimate PVP. It really is Us vs. Them. clicky |
