The biggest negative for myself and many other players I have spoken to is the overall cost to buy BS of any kind and ships in general. We all understand these ships are supposed to be the elite etc.. However, it ends up only the large corps having alot of them. If someone puts in enough hours you could do this, for example we used 3 cruisers, 1 BS , 2 haulers and played a fullweekend and made around 120M ISK. This would cover us for 1 BS only.
The game for many players and small corps become an endless mine, mine, mine.. With moments of F(/% just lost my BS again! I know personally 3 players who left just because they had enough of the endless mining and not enough fun factor.
I would propose a quick fix for players who love the game but do not want to mine at all but want to be part of the game. Join one of the Military organisations and like Agent missions you work for them. You are given ships and told to patrol certain areas as you progress you go up in rank and ship. To stop you from going rouge the ship AI will only highlight ships you can shot at. Plus if there is a PVP attack anywhere in system you get a pop up window saying combat in progress warp to point yes or no! So, in all you have a full fun time boarder watching for PVP Pirates and taking out NPC pirates. You get to slowly work up the ranks and get into bigger shipsą
So the fun factor is back again either go corp or solo and get your own ship or join a military organisation and work for them and get a pay check per month :-)
Over all this is the only killer point for the game the hard work up the money line to get the ISK to buy the ship to lose it and do it all again. Eve is backward in set-up than other online games where you donĘt need to be online for the endless killing to level up your character,. But the flaw in the game here is if my char dies I donĘt lose much before I respawn and carry on as normal. In EVE if I die I lose my ship and I am back at zero status again and need to rebuild my ship. Just think of making a level 50 wizard in DAOC and each time you die you are back to level 0 or level 25 (Ekk). You may not pay here in skill points lost but credits still take time to make which in a way still equals to time need to level your char again.
and yes I know of insurance but it does not reflect the real market value and its only for 3 weeks!
Just a thoughtą.

??? The more you mine, the cheaper BS gets - simple mechanics - plus you could always build your own with all those mins. Prices won't always be so expensive, and anyway if you don't want price of BS to go up then stop losing your ships. If anything, easier access to BS would kill the fun factor for about 98% of all the other players, and cause mass exodus - where would the challenge be ? My vote goes to much longer production time for BS - if something is elite, it should take a loooooong time to build. So actually quite the OPPOSITE of what you just said......
p.s. your analogy about the wizard would be more precise if the wizard lost his 'rod of all-blasting powerfulness' - the ship you fly is NOT your character, its an item that costs money, has value - nothing more.

Ill add this.
I have been playing Eve for 4 days. I am up to a level 3 agent and I make over a million a day doing missions. Granted I put in a solid 3 hours at it I can still afford to buy my battleship probably before I could even train the skills.
And FYI I have about 8.5M in my wallet right now. And a hangar full of goods from people getting blown up by sentry guns.
Think of it like this. If its too hard your doing something wrong.

I totally agree Sin Ist. If it's really that hard, you're doing something wrong.

I had my first battleship gotten pretty much alone in the first month of playing. Back when they were 110mill and that was cheap.
Its not that hard to get more battleships when you have battleships, you just shouldnt mine in 1.0 space on scordite and veldspar. Go to .1's and stuff and mine the rarer ores there. Much more money to be had. "I'm comin' for ya, and Hell's comin' with me!" |

Who says you need a battleship to enjoy Eve? Frigates and cruisers are fun enough. I dont like BS too much, as they are slow as hell. Unless im engaging in fleet wars, im in my good ol' rifter.
There are other ways to make ISK other than mining. There is an entire player-run market out there. Trade goods, minerals, blueprints... Mining is the boring mans job. ********** Everyone deserves to die. You go first.
