Well, today was definately amusing.
someone I killed last night jumped into the system I was in (also happens to be where I killed him) asking for a 1v1. now of course we all read how "blah blah blah didn't honor a 1v1"
so ofc I don't bother even accepting them anymore.
this guy tried very hard to get me out, I even messed with him and undocked in a carrier and of course he got all anxious, after I redocked and was telling me he'll even fight me in my carrier....
yeah...
my carrier vs his Domi... and you want to 1v1.... ok lol. I was born at night. it just wasn't last night.
so I am about to log off anyways, and tell him as much. then a few seconds later all his friends sitting on the other side of the gate jump in....
this is why you never accept a 1v1. especially against someone you recently killed.

You are incorrect. You merely don't accept 1v1s against people you can't trust (which, at last count, include 99% of EVE). Therefore, you can accept 1v1s, just only against 1% of the EVE population.
I had a fairly fun 1v1 few weeks ago. It was my 830k SP alt versus somebody else's 800k SP alt. I was flying a ratting blaster-fitted Incursus, he was flying a Rifter. Pretty close fight, he nearly popped my Hob I (after returning it to my drone bay, I cycled it in and out every few seconds). I have no doubt that had he been packing anti-armor ammo, he would've sliced through my ship (and had I been packing tackle, I definitely would've gone). ------------------------------ One more soldier off to war... And one Velator in my hangars. |

Every 1v1 I've done was honured by both sides, but I guess I pick'em well, I've declined more than a few that I thought were way too dodgey.
Dont say never accept 1v1's just pick them well

i honour 1v1's as long as people are inteligent with it carrier v domi is no match therefore im not inclined to support it 1v1's imo are meant to test skill so ganking you is all in fair play

If and when i engage in one i make sure to have eyes 1 jump out on the gates just to make sure his buddies are waitng to jump me.
If you see his buddies waitng on the gate, well for one you know it's a trap and two have a few of your mates waitng to kill them all.

Ive taken a few 1vs1's and 90 percent of the time ive had too fight off 2 or 3 ships too get a kill or two.. Best bet is never fly a ship into a 1vs1 that cant handle a 3 vs 1 at least

i only accept 1 vs 1 on ships that i can afford to lose, tbh if you do that it doesn't matter if you lose it or not and most of the time it isn't worth them jumping a load of friends in
--------------------------------------------- no sig for you !!!

If i recall, he got ganked by them because he wanted to join them but wasn't part of the sa forums or whatever, cutely refered to as a pubbie or sumfin.
Apparently it's really funny to shoot people who want to join and help you

I've done a couple of 1v1s. It basically worked like this:
1v1s against Pirates were always honoured 1v1s against Antipirates were always dishonoured
then there's always the group that '1v1' you but fit specifically to counter your ship/setup, or offer 1v1s when they're in some lame sort of nano setup that you would never be able to kill (I had a Raven offer me a 1v1 pre-nanonerf, noticing his ship was extremely agile I sensed nanos and warped off to the local plex. No MWD there = he died) ---

or..
accept a 1v1 if you have ample help nearby. if theyre honorable then youll have a good fight- alternatively, if they try to **** you over you **** them back twice as hard.

there are a few corps that always honour 1v1's ID VETO (cheers for raping me :D) and OMG
but because of the nature of the game acceptinga 1v1 is usually suicide.
i myself have been known to duel with relative newbies to teach them a bit more about combat without destroying their ship
unless they give me **** ofc

Edited by: Reem Fairchild on 07/10/2007 17:42:40 I've had 2 1v1 arranged fights. One was against a pirate in low-sec and one was in 0.0. Both were honored by both sides.
I think it's just stupid to agree to a duel and then have your friends come in when it goes badly. On the other hand though, I have seen people attack a lone ship and then smack in local about "1v1 being dishonored" when they get attacked by the pilot's friendlies that come to help, even though there was never any agreement for a 1v1 fight to begin with.

This - same here.
Well, ok, last time I've accepted a 1v1 we had four low-lives jumping in, which ended up with four kills and a total of 32M of loot for me and my opponent, which we divided and resumed the fight afterwards

to sum it up.
1 if you accept 1v1 be in a ship you can afford to lose 2 expect to get blobbed, be pleasantly surprised if you dont 3 dont whine if you do (get ganked) 4 take down the original attacker at all cost

It is always very hard to accept a 1 vs 1 against an unknown enemy when you KNOW he has friends in the next system...
