Hi,
can someone answer this as I have got conflicting information.
I have a secure passworded container floating in space near a roid field. How long will it stay there anchored?
I have been told: 1 hour, 1hour 30 mins, forever.
I was floating about in a 0.7 area and there were loads of them!
Anyone know?

Forever, if all your conditions stated are true. 
It's the temporary jet-cans that pop after a while. (One hour reliable safety; after that all bets are off. Just a matter of time)
You can only anchor your secure passworded containers in 0.7 or lower, btw. You'll likely see a lot in 0.8 and higher, but they were anchored before a patch made that no longer possible. That was over 2 years ago, at least... and they're still there. |

Thanks for the reply, I am actually haveing the can float in 0.9 space, does that make a differnace?

0.5 through 1.0 space = if its anchored = it will be there until someone shoots it and destroys it. If someone does shoot it though, CONCORD will show up and shoot them. It would have to be worth it for the person destroying the container.
0.0 through 0.4 = if anchored = it will be there until someone shoots it and destroys it. If someone shoots it then CONCORD will not show up.
If its password protected then you have to have the password to open it. Now if it's password protected but not anchored then you can scoop it to a cargo hold (has to be big enough cargo space to fit the container) then you repackage it and all the contents pop out and you can now assemble it and put your own password on it.

You cannot anchor your secure can in 0.9
You can let it float around in space, sure... but anyone with a large enough cargo bay could just wander on over, scoop it up and be on their way before you can blink.

Ive just checked and im in a 1.0 area.
So all this time my password secrued pod could have been scooped up and concord would have done nothing?

yup
Also you can only anchor the container as long as it is 5000 meters from another object (secure container, asteroid...etc)

Splatigan, you know you have to manually anchor the can with an action, right?
(also the Anchoring Skill to level 1, to select the action) |

Ack! So if its anchored then it cant be scooped?

if its anchored, then no one can run off with it (right click on it in cargo, select Launch For Self/Corp, and then once its in space, right click and select Anchor) You do need Anchoring 1 skill for this.
once anchored anyone can open it and put stuff in/take it out, but cannot scoop the can. Now you can set a password on it, and only the people you give the password to will be able to access it.

Correct, you can't anchor now. You used to be able to and there are still several secure canisters in .9 1.0 space.
